It appears that Sultan likes to say, at least to the press, that he plans on unifying, and we all know he had a unification fight with Chagaev set up, only for Chagaev to suddenly take ill, and them slap Holy in there faster than you can say Who 's he fighting? :huh

But now that Ibrag-alot :)lol: ) has retained his title.....

And now that Chagaev is apparently suddenly over his intestinal illness.....:huh

And now that Wladimir K. still says he wants the Holy Ibrag-alot winner in Feb.

(and the WBC is too tied up in its own soap opera to be considered).....

Are we any closer to a looooooooong awaited unification fight? I mean, one they'll actually carry through with, instead of call off shortly after touting about how great what they were doing was?

    :huh

And if we are close, who is most likely to participate in said unification fight?

They were VERY close to unification after the last wave of mandatories.

But then Wlad injured his hand, Sultan-Chagaev was cancelled and instead Sultan fought Holyfield and Chagaev was sick. And Maskaev injured himself, making his fight with Peter postpone and Vitali also injured himself.

So the division could've been very close to unification, but there was bad luck.

But how close are we, now?

Wladimir's hand is healed.......Chag is over his illiness, and Ibrag has an open schedule.

Wlad has healed. Ok, he could unify.

But...would Chagaev fight an elite opponent right after his illness? Maybe he wants a tuneup first. There were rumours of a fight against Michael Moorer.

Sultan could fight Wlad. But maybe the WBO will tell him to fight his mandatory -Thompson- next.

And the WBC is ****ed right now with the Peter/Maskaev/Vitali problem.

I think there are 50% chances of unification. It may happen or may not happen.

Regarding the big unification fight that was called off right after it was setup..............

Now if you think about what was said while the Chag Ibrag fight was still on, it seems to me that the whole Chagaev illness was a bunch of ****, to put it plainly.

I mean, I reacall one of the managers of Chagaev, I think it was, acting really put out and digusted with how their long awaited unification fight was not getting hardly any press coverage. He seems really ticked off over how what he thought was a great thing that everyone would really appreciate and get behind was not getting the exposure they expected......(and who can blame him for being frustrated and mad as hell over that?). I am sure someone can look it up if they try a bit.

That said, I think they expected a huge attraction out of this fight, and when they saw that the press was not behind it and that it didn't get the amount of media attention to help it sell, they rethought the fight and decided to slap a big name in Holyfield in there with Sultan, and claim that Chagaev was too ill to fight. I think they didn't see the dollars in this fight they were expecting, and saw the name Holyfield, as a better moneymaker, and the two titleholders each keep their titles., and can continue to milk them, seperately.....

That's what I think happened, but...........

Next week IBF World Champion Wladimir Klitschko will fly with his manager Bernd Boente to New York in order to speak with the responsible persons of the American HBO TV.

''We will do anything in our power to get an unification fight with Sultan Ibragimov. Ibragimov wants it, fans wants it and we already for a long time'', said Wladimir Klitschko.

Well at least wald haters can't say he's not trying but im sure they will anyway :yep i dont think its gonna happen. iggy/chagaev arent stupid. who the hell would want to get in th ring w/this wrecking machine. he just needs to fight the best available opponent. If he's fighting at MSG in feb, he's gonna have to fight a name. Valuev, Mccall, Rahman, Tua are possibilities. The better opponents Virchis and Thompson dont have enough name recognition.

I'll believe it when i see it, I don't see either Chagaev or Sultan wanting to fight Wlad, I could see them fighting each other. Poor Wlad nobody wants to fight him.

As much as Wlad wants to get in the ring with Ibragimov, it takes two to tango.

Let's just hope that Ibragimov really meant it when he said he wants to unfiy.

Here's the one question that no one seems to have considered:

    Who cares?

Let's pretend that either Wlad, Ibragimov, Maskaev or Chagaev emerged as the unified lineal champion. Would it really make the sport any better or any worse?

The only salvation for the heavywieght division is to start over from scratch and hope that sometime in the next 5 years or so, a new crop of fighters come up who are more talented. I for one, am not willing to hold my breath, but that's what its going to take.

It certainly would make the division better, without question.

The heavyweight division would start to be more defined and who was the man would start to have more clarity. And I'd venture to say that even sports channels and other news channels would start to take notice when THE heavyweight champioin of the world was fighting.

I think the unfied champion would also start to be asked to be on Jay Leno, David Letterman, Larry King Live, and other such widely seen shows that the entire public would be exposed to, thereby planting seeds of interest for heavyweight boxing, once again.

For instance, if Joe Schmoe off the street sees either Chagaev or Klitscko on Jay Leno, and hears his story, and learns tnat he is the newly crowned, WORLD heavyweight champion who now holds ALL of the titles......Joe Schmoe is more likely to take interest in his fight that is coming up.

This would start to help get the division back on its feet, once again. :good

I like what your saying, but heres the problem and I dont know if you want to hear it. The only title holder with a exciting personality and enertaining fights is Sam Peter, and his stock has went down since his Mccline fight. Wlad does great work in the ring, but outside the ring he puts me to sleep. The fire seems gone in the heavywieghts today, its hard for alot of americans including myself to digest a champ like Wlad who has PHD.

I dont know I just think people are waiting for the second coming of Tyson, not only skills he brought to the ring but his shocking behavior as well.
