Are the Klitschko brothers overrated because they fight in such a terrible division?

It's not mutually exclusive. The Klitschkos can be good fighters, AND they can be in a crap division. While I do not rate wither Vitali or Wlad as highly as Lennox Lewis, I still think they are good fighters. Very good. They could be competitive and possibly even champions in any era.

 

Works both ways. Some will totally overrate them because no-one has come close to beating either of them for a while and others will totally underrate them because they don't (and can't,) get decent names on their resumes.

 

heavyweights in this era aren't proving anything, they are as weak as the era they represent.

 

Who is "overrating" them? I think most people say they are very good fighters, that this is a weak era for heavyweight boxing, and that they would be a a handful for heavyweights in any era but certainly not the dominant fighters they are right now. Which to me sounds about right, they beat the **** out of every next big thing that comes along, but it's obvious to everyone with a brain that guys like Arreola are not top level fighters. But then again were Trevor Berbick and Bonecrusher Smith and most of the other guys Tyson fought?

The old four horsemen saying springs to mind, whether you like them or you don't, they're the best thing going today.

 

I think champions like Holyfield and Bowe were lucky that the Klitschkos weren't born 15 years earlier. And Holyfield was my favorite boxer long before I even knew who the Klitschkos were. Never liked Bowe.

 

Dont even go there, Arreola is a c-level bum a club fighter who cant compare with any decent past champion. In the mid 80's guys like Green, Tillis, Fraizer, Ribalta, Whiterspoon were all better then guys like Arreola or SamP and would be in the top 10 of today - easy.

HW is at an all time low these days. :tired:bart

 

that's a bold concession to make. you must have bent over backwards to acknowledge that point

don't forget, before vitali fought lewis a lot of people thought lewis would dispose of him with ease, so he was clearly underrated before he began to dominate the division. judge the K's in terms of all time heavyweight ranking in ten years time

 

Holmes fought a rather sorry bunch as well (and ducked plenty of them, too), but just about everyone, myself included, considers him a great fighter anyway.

Maybe some are overrating the Klitz. Fine, I agree.

But others are GROSSLY GROSSLY overestimating the likes of Frazier, Bowe, Moorer, Morrison, Mercer, Holmes, Holyfield etc.

 

When Tyson was in his prime the HW division was crap too, except for Tyson. It was the same with Holmes.

the klits size strength, athleticism, and technical boxing prowless would have allowed them to be succesful in most eras, there actually really underrated, in particular vitali, he doesnt just beat people he stops them. your obviously have to much either american bias to see that and you know nothing about boxing, too believe they would not have been competitive in other eras, if they were b orn in nebraska they would be revered as 2 of the greatest of all time
