I think this post nailed it

Anyway I think I remember Floyd saying post Cotto he wouldnt return to 154, so on one hand it sucks but if he really doesnt wanna go back up I as a fan can live with it

but if Floyd ever goes back up to 154 and faces someone not Canelo then I'd be severely disappointed

For me there arent many fights for floyd that make sense or have real pull, I mean whose left?

I also think Floyd is going to have a hard time selling fights as long as the Pacquiao fight continues to look impossible, I bet if Manny loses to Rios the next Floyd PPV bombs

Void has refused to fight Alvarez, Trout, Paul Williams, Pac, Martinez at 150, etc., Void is a woman beater...........

canelo fight is the 'million dollar carrot' out there, way above any other fights
but the problem is the weight, and it's a real problem

I think Alvarez will be too big to make 154 for much longer. He's a growing lad.

your argument on experience would make sense had he not fought Ortiz and RG, both of those guys had a total of 3 fights at 147. where was their experience needed? and the slew of 140 pound names coming up as rumors..garcia, khan, peterson....they have good resumes at 140.
theres no valid excuse that will fly if this fight doesnt come off with canelo...its a blatant duck...toughest fight out there but for the most money, and he passes on it? seems pretty self explanatory there

i've already explained to you what the valid reason is, and it's a genuine one, no matter how bad you want the fight to be signed

It's disappointing he hasn't strived to get the absolute maximum out of his talent, but then again I suppose that's exactly what he's done in terms of his earnings. It's so difficult to say what you'd do in his shoes and most of us would play the game the same way in the end. OTOH, Can you imagine - as someone who loves the sport - having Floyd's talent and not trying to be the greatest fighter whoever lived? You only get so much time and then it's gone forever. Not talking about fighting Alvarez, but just his career as a whole.

And it's a genuine one, but just one of the reasons it would be his best win in years.

if floyd beat canelo at 154 it would be huge, but both pac and floyd have a lot to answer for for not making their fight

there will always be 'one more fight'(its canelo this week), but if floyd and pac fought 3-4 years ago they could both rest in peace as far as i'm concerned

Well all fighters try to make as much money as they can, but the thing is money and legacy used to go hand in hand. When there was one or two champs per weightclass, you had no choice but to fight tough opponents in order to make big money. Floyd just happens to be fighting in an era where there's a gazillion divisions and (corrupt) sanctioning bodies as well as networks who are manipulated by promoters. In fact, seeing how ****ed up the system is, his selection of opponents could have been waaaaay worse.

Luckily Floyd put in his work before **** really fell off the deep end in the sport.

It's funny that you bring this up. I've always thought the same of May but you know what I realized about him throughout the years? He lacks the BALLS. That's just my observation. He has all the skills in terms of boxing but he isn't the COMPLETE fighter you'd want him to be because he lacks that desire/warrior mentality that I believe is very important in this sport. This isn't the amateurs. The PROS hurt ha. You can't just try to "box" your way to being the greatest. Eventually you will face certain fighters who will force you to show this other side. The warrior side. A side that I don't think he likes. It's not in his nature. And this is why I feel he has never really wanted certain fights in the past. I've always sensed that he carries this FEAR, in which he isn't as confident in his abilities, while others think he has them. You can't force a fighter to be a certain way. If that's who he is, it is what it is. And I'm not talking about this recent Canelo potential fight. This is just what I've seen, throughout his career. Same reason why I can never put him above other past greats. This is only my opinion.

if you are the best boxer on the planet, and the only way you can lose is if someone takes you out of your zone and forces you to fight a different fight, what would you do?

what you've just said is ignorant because you are essentially saying that "if floyd doesn't go to the trenches then we won't write stories about him"

when you said "you can't just box your way to being the greatest" it just proves what i've just said

now i aint saying floyd is the greatest, but you just don't understand how smart he is in the ring and how he fights to his strengths
