I'm sure most would agree that champs should fight contenders in order. We know that this has not been adhered to consistantly throughout boxing history. Is it me, or has it gotten much worse in recent times? Seems rankings take a back seat to the money fight more than ever.
Big money always takes an angle on small money. Main difference over time is proliferation of belts — plenty of championships to go around so the No. 1 contender might be the fifth-best guy in the division (or even worse if there’s a ‘regular’ or interim champ.
Definitely. Just look at that guy that recently went 12 with Bivol or those 2 that Hamzah S’ beat. One of them was 68th in the world! “World” titles, not, are handed out by the blatantly corrupt alphabet boys like participant finishers in a 10k! Even luckier, a notification in the mail, without even boxing a 68th rated no-hoper, like Shiraz!
"I'm sure most would agree that champs should fight contenders in order. We know that this has not been adhered to consistantly throughout boxing history." I don't think we've ever had an understanding that champs have to fight the guy ranked 1 every single time. The rankings function more like a menu at a restaurant.
