Since May 5th, there are a lot of events that are telling us that Miguel Cotto is the next opponent for Alvarez but we still ignore it, let's see what I'm talking about:

-May 5: Canelo and Cotto fought the same date. Canelo beats Shane Mosley (who fought Cotto in 2007) and Cotto lost to Floyd, but many felt pretty good about what they saw from him.

-May 24: Paul Williams-Canelo Alvarez is set.
-May 29: Paul Williams suffers motorcycle accident, fight off.
-May 31: James Kirkland replaces Paul Williams.
-June 1st: Kirkland pulls off, shoulder injury.
-June 2nd: Kirkland says he pulled off the fight for economic reasons.
-June 13: Victor Ortiz replaces James Kirkland.
-June 14: Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez is set for Sept. 15.
-June 23: Josesito Lopez upsets Victor Ortiz, Canelo-Ortiz is off.

Saul isn't even ready for Cotto(e) yet. He has yet to be in with an elite opponent

The fight doesn't have to be in September, Canelo is running out of choices and he may give Sept. 15 to Chavez-Martinez.

Cotto won't take the fight. He made 8 million plus PPV upside in his last fight. I don't think he can make that for Canelo, and certainly not if they insist on going up against Chavez-Martinez. However this is a fight that may happen next year, and it would be a good one I think.

Should Martinez put Chavez jr away, he's next fight would be a huge draw. Unless a Pac2 fight is possible, this is the likeliest choice for Miguel. Canelo should fight Lara.

If it was alvarez vs cotto, then it would out do martinez vs chavez, because you have puerto rico vs mexico and it could be like a vargas vs trinidad atmosphere.

When Cotto looks old, he will get a shot at Canelo.

I like Alvarez, but I think he's a step away from being ready for Cotto yet. I reckon Trout would be a good fight for him at THIS POINT in his career. Maybe in a year or two fight Cotto.

Maybe next year around May 5th. Puerto Rico v Mexico is always huge! Cotto has added motivation that Canelo beat his bro.
