Emmanuel Steward noted that Ken Norton's style of guard is exceptional for blocking and parrying straight punches, that's one of the largest reasons he had so much success against amazing straight line punchers like Ali/Holmes. Foreman could tap your chin and make you die from any angle. Ken Norton's whole style was based upon neutralizing the jab and countering it. Ironically, this tactful approach led to him getting knocked to hell by some guys with less refined boxing skills. Foreman had a good jab, but once you add in the sweeping uppercuts and thudding hooks, Norton's style of defending punches becomes a lot less viable.
