Are there any fighters in history you think could beat a prime Roy Jones?

Good points, but I definitely believe that Nigel would have fought Roy.

    Boxing politics.

I've debunked the myth that Roy was happy fighting low level mandatories on his HBO contract.

    He didn't have the confidence.

Nunn would have had a better chance.

You don't think he could of gone after better fights during that phase? He wasted a lot of his prime defending belts against those guys IMO. He didn't need belts for leverage at that point.

He did go after better fights mate.

    He tried to fight:

    Liles
    Dariusz (in the U.S.)
    Hopkins (2002 rematch)
    Evander

    Boxing politics prevented fights like:

    Jackson
    Benn

Fighters being content and not pushing themselves were guys like:

    Eubank
    Calzaghe

    I think so.
The fighters I would favour to beat him -
    Michalczewski
Calzaghe (we know can beat him)
    Erdei

Styles make fights and possibly Benn, Rocchigiani, Maske, Eubank, Ottke

    @Loudon

What better LHWs do you feel Jones beat that were better than Tarver and G Johnson.
Fighters who I wouldnt favour to beat Michalczewski, Calzaghe, Erdei, Benn, Rocchigiani, Maske, Eubank, Ottke

Ottke beat prime G Johnson who went on to beat Jones

I should of phrased my question better - his commitment to the mandos were the problem IMO, he might not of been able to get the above fights for reasons we've already discussed but he could of definitely found a better contender than some of the fighters presented to him.

I'll only debate with you if you're going to be serious.

Nobody cares that Ottke beat Johnson, who beat Roy.

Glen beat Roy, then lost to Clinton.

    It means nothing.

I've never seen come across any boxing fan (even non fans of Roy) who thinks Glen would have beaten Roy at his best.

Why would you have favoured Dariusz to have beaten him?

Giving a fighter a fair chance is one thing, but actually favouring them is another.

    Mandatories are mandatories aren't they.

Joe Calzaghe fought a guy in Mario Veit, who he'd already beaten in a single round, just 3 prior.

Look at some of the guys who Eubank fought.

    Look at who Dariusz fought.

    Look at who Hopkins fought.

Roy held all 3 of the main titles, which meant that he had mandatory obligations from all 3 of the main org's.

I've discussed this with General Zod many times. He could have dropped the belts he had, but what would it have achieved?

If he couldn't get guys like Dariusz and Hopkins to fight him with 3 main belts at stake, then he'd have had even less chance without them.

Hagler beats him at 160. He walks him down and stops him. RJJ chin is too fragile. Andre Ward has a serious shot. Once he gets inside and starts to bust him down RJJ is in trouble. Gerald McClellan lands 1 punch and it's over. Nigel Benn could walk him down and stop him too.

Marvin sometimes weighed 157 in the days of same day weigh-ins.

Roy was a huge MW, with great speed and an unorthadox style.

He'd have been a huge threat to Marvin.

Marvin would have been greatly troubled by his movement.

Andre is great, but I don't think he'd have gotten inside.

I'd have given Benn and Gerald a punchers chance.

At the lower weights, I think guys like Nunn and McCallum would have had the best shot.
