Oh, the whole Sauerland stable is with no amateur background, and you can see it by the way they fight!

Huck had a few fights, AA's brother, the Murats, Pianeta, Valuev... not that I'm saying they are good fighters!

Nate had an amateur career, he just didn't start boxing until he was 24. Was an amateur and made the US Olympic Trials, but lost and turned pro at 28.

Don't mean to be an arsehole, but it was 15. He amassed 14 wins before entering his first tournament, he lost and decided he would do better in the professional ranks. He certainly wasn't wrong there. :smoke

Not sure if Ola Afolabi had no amateur background, anyone confirm?
He's pretty handy. A Cruiserweight version of Emmanuel Augustus?

Rocky Marciano was 8-4 as an amateur. I know that was a long time ago, but you weren't specific. He had the type of style that is better suited for the pros anyway, due to longer fights. You actually said ''NO amateur background'', so there was really no need to post about Marciano anyway. F*ck it!

Kevin Johnson, before turning pro, sparred with world-level contenders in lieu of an extensive amateur career.

    Less than 20 I believe.

Foreman had only 23, but he did win a gold medal.

I think 25+ amateur fights equals a solid amateur career, personally.

Though it also depends on who you fight etc.

Does Hopkins have any significant amateur background, or any at all?

Apparently, he went 95-4 from the age of 10 to 17 before his 5-year incarceration.
