Sanchez had 4 amateur fights. Chavez sr although was reported to be "14-1" as an amateur, was quoted by his son as having none. Duran was 13-3 as an am. Quawi had none. 4 ATG's there.

Over 60 amateur fights and a pretty freaky KO percentage for amateurs. Nothing high - level though.

Jameel McCline made a pretty good living with no amateur background. He fought for the Heavyweight title several times losing to Valuev, Wlad Klitshcko, and Sam Peter.

i dont know how many he had exactly, but i do know that he had enough to go to the 72 Olympic Trials where he lost to Duane Bobick. He quit in that fight, and it took him a long time to live that down as he was labeled a quitter with no heart.

Palomino also started late. He had never boxed until he was 19 years old and was drafted into Vietnam. He went out for the Boxing team and as a result of making the team didnt was able to stay in the US,instead of going to Nam. 3 years later he won theAAU national title.
Ken Norton also followed a similar path as Palomino and fought during the Vietnam war era on the Marine corp team. He was in his early 20s when he started boxing.

Absolutely. Nate is a fairy-tale story; one that shows people that it's never really too late to start boxing. The guy used to work in a warehouse and used to shadow-box to keep himself active and awake during the graveyard-shift. His co-workers saw him, and suggested he try boxing competitively. So he never even put on a pair of gloves till the age of 24.

Jeff Chandler only had two amateur fights but went on to become the bantamweight champion and one of the best fighters in the world.

Yep. He also came from professional rugby league. Was a high profile player before walking away from 600,000 a year contract, the highest at the time. At 25...not many thought he could make it but ultimately was a good decision since he's made a lot of money now from boxing. Pretty much put boxing back on the map in Australia. Funny thing though, his talent should have allowed him to do a bit more than he has.

Salvador Sanchez had supposedly 4 amateur fights. He ended up 44-1 at 23 yrs old before his death and had already beaten atg's Gomez and Nelson and hall of famer Danny "Little Red" Lopez to become boxing's biggest "What If?" and shares distinction with Willie Pep back in forth as being the greatest featherweight in boxing history.
