Are there any good reasons why pro boxing in its current form should not be banned?

The point of boxing is for the promoters to get rich on the back of his boxers' health, and no, most dog/**** fights do not end with the death of a dog. They are much too precious to their owners to let them die. The fight is usually stopped. Do the horses that lose a race get shot? No. Same with dogs and cocks.

No...duels could be ended as soon as someone draws blood. Russian roulette isn't always fatal. Some people survive shooting themselves in the brain.

Why aren't people property? If I am strong enough to enslave humans and then make them kill each other in gladiatorial contests for my enjoyment, who has a right to tell me it's wrong?

Any contact at any (high-tempo) sport can cause injury, wether you intend to hurt your opponent or e.g. win the ball, the end result can be the same. There is no moral high ground imo, in saying 'well I know you'll get hurt by what I do but thats only a by-product of my pursuit of glory'.

If your wife shags your brother is that OK if she does it hoping you wont find out and get (emotionally,) hurt. That seems to me similar to the whole 'intention to hurt' argument.

Everything you wrote there is false. Total garbage. No point in replying properly.

There's a difference. Dogs bite each others' ears off. Boxers don't...

Horse racing is cruel because animals who are bread to have legs that cannot properly support their bodyweight are overexerted. A hell of a lot of racehorses brake their legs and then get shot or die of a heart attack, because of the effort.

Just because war is evil doesn't mean boxing is not. War is just more evil than boxing, that's all.

Those people could be given a good education and trained to fulfil a useful role in society. But no...that doesn't make greedy promoters rich. That doesn't appeal to the bloodthirsty armchair fan. We want to see people getting hurt, we don't want to help someone escape poverty.

    ...see the hypocrisy?

Boxers have a choice to train and enter the ring, not to train and enter the ring or to not train and NOT enter the ring. At the end of the day, its a personal decision on what career they choose. Just like stunt men who put themselves in danger, etc. Its something they feel they can be good at while making money. Some hardly come out hurt from boxing, others we know the story. At the end of the day, no one puts a gun to their heads.
Lets not forget there are other brutal sports like Football, where players have come out paralyzed or receive permanent injuries and are affected for life.

Some people would choose to enter Russian roulette tournaments, but they're not sanctioned and I cannot watch them on TV whilst drinking beer and eating popcorn with my mates. Why?:huh
