Are there any good reasons why pro boxing in its current form should not be banned?

Although i definitely agree that gloves are for more than just protecting the hands, the more power fighters have as the weight goes up, the more likely they are to injure their hands. So that argument doesn't really work.

Duels could be ended as soon as blood was drawn, but that rarely happened, a high profile example is Hamilton vs. Burr. As for Russian Roulette, show me the percentage of people who survived point blank shots to the head?

Either way I support people's right to do it as long as no one outside the consenting parties is put in danger, at the same time I can understand why it isn't endorsed by society.

As for people being property, in the USA people can not be property because it is illegal, but the statement I made was neve ran assertion that people could not be property, so your questioning seems strange.

Yes, they would be the property of the owner.

A boxer who is in there trying to win and throwing punches has a chance. In five rounds a good boxer with NO power could change things around an lose a less embarrasing decision. Maybe even get a KD or cut the other guy.

But there were two rounds to go, Hatton wasn't getting any weaker and was proving very effective, Malinaggi was in survival mode and threw basically nothing, he was not trying and he was hugging more than that guy on youtube.

    Good stoppage.

I didnt say they weren't to protect the hands, that is a given. Its to protect both, that should also be a given...

wikipedia: "Boxing gloves are gloves that fighters wear or use on their hands to cushion the impact during boxing matches. Their primary use is to protect the knuckles of the fighters. They are also used for protection from injury such as fractures and/or contusions when punched. Unlike the classical cestus, boxing gloves protect both opponents, and were adopted as a safety improvement over earlier "bare knuckle" boxing."

Bad stoppage. Andrade only won 1 rounds in the first 10 rounds against Bute. He certainly had no knockout power! He didn't throw many punches either. It was part of his strategy, in fact - he wanted Bute to punch himself out so that he, Andrade, could finish him off in the second last or last round. He almost managed to do so, but according to you, the fight should have been stopped somewhere around round 8-9, because Andrade could no longer win the fight. Shows how silly your argument is.

It was his fault he got humiliated..............must be a bit humiliating for him to get told to start punching in the first place but then to not throw any punches after that.

    **** him.

If he didn't want the stoppage on his record he should have put up a fight.

I disagree. He did nothing that put him in danger of getting stopped. It was just his trainer's pride that led to the stoppage. His trainer threw his toys out of his pram when he realised his special, special boy was not fighting the fight that he, the great trainer, had trainer him for. He put his own pride over the fans' enjoyment and over whatever safety concerns anyone was entitled to have. Screw him. I hope he never gets a job with any boxer. Malignaggi might not have given his all to win the fight, but how do you know that if he had committed fully to winning the fight he wouldn't have been stopped by Hatton? How do you know he didn't realise that his best bet of finishing the fight on his feet was to hold more and fight less? What's wrong with trying to survive in a fight that you realise you cannot win? Nothing! That's what you're payed to do, if you cannot actually win the fight - survive.

Andrade was constantly applying pressure and throwing punches. He is known as a solid puncher and was always in the fight. Even in Butes best rounds Andrade didn't fight negatively and kept coming foward. Bute did not look like he was getting stronger either.

    Good stoppage.

Forget the Bute fight...here's a better example: Andrade should have been stopped in the Kessler fight, then, right? He wasn't getting through to Kessler, his pressure was ineffective against Kessler's 1-2 and he was taking a hell of a lot of leather...see...your argument is silly....it doesn't hold water...

There would be a lot more cuts and broken noses, but the fights would end more dramatically, yeah...:think

Agree that McGirt was throwing his toys out the pram but if the fighter isn't even trying to make it a contest he's got no right to be there if you ask me.

I don't see what cudos there is for Paul M if he went the distance but didn't try and win. Only thing he gets is that his record looks a bit better to anyone that didn't actually see the fight.

You are paid to fight not to try and give your opponent a blowjob and hope he takes a shine to you which was about Paulies level by that time.

The kudos he gets is this: he has proven his chin is good enough, that he is tough enough and that he has sufficient skill and will to survive 12 rounds against Hatton. It's not the same if you get stopped or if you lose a wide decision. Peter Buckley would not have made a living from boxing if it didn't make a difference. It's impossible to know that Hatton would not have gassed sufficiently in the last 30 seconds for Malignaggi not to score a flash KD, for example. Unlikely but possible. We'll never know. McGirt shortchanged the fans and robbed his fighter of the satisdaction of knowing he went 12 full rounds with Hatton for his pride. Screw him!

My arguments purpose is not to hold water.

Again, Andrade was trying to win, he was still applying pressure to Kessler in the final round and landed a enough blows (not many) which warranted continuation. There was no stage in that fight where Andrade appeared visibly hurt and he did not fight negatively (buying time holding and whatnot).

    Good Stoppage.

I'm glad you admit your argument is not designed to hold water. We can agree about that!:yep :good

Do you know what the odds of Malignaggi getting stopped in the 11th rounds were, at the beginning of the round? 1000/1! A thousand to one! That's how unlikely it was that Malignaggi was going to get stopped in that round...so he clearly wasn't doing as little as you claim he was. He was in the fight. He wasn't getting battered about the shop. He wasn't winning the rounds but he was in the fight. Bad stoppage.
