Are there any light heavies in history who potentially could've beaten Mike Tyson on June 27, 1988

Spinks on paper had the style and attributes to give Tyson a hard time, he just couldn't cope with that mega power of Tyson's.

Barbados Joe Walcott had the clout to teach that bully a trick or two!

Tunney I'd be VERY confident putting my money on. Charles and Moore as well. I'd give Patterson an outside chance.

And his knees which he absolutely needed, were shot.

Tunney would do well to still be around by round 3. Charles and Moore were excellent fighters, but would be too small for a prime Tyson and likely wouldn't last that long. And it's not just the size, it's Tyson's size plus the other attributes he'd bring into the ring. Patterson would be the most clear cut out of the 4. He does about as well as Spinks did and lasts as long.

Tunney , Charles, Moore, and Patterson(esp Patterson who was intimidated to the point of losing the fights before they started against Liston) have no chance of beating Tyson at light heavy. The only light heavy I could see MAYBE getting past 6-7 Rds is E.Holyfield, or maybe Qawi. (Qawi was real slick defensively in prime) but that's a big Maybe. Note I didn't say win....Again, no light heavy in history beats a prime Tyson. Most annihilated before 5 rds. Total mismatches.

If 190 pound Holyfield fought 218 pound Tyson in 1988, that'd be too much for Holyfield to overcome. He NEEDED to be bigger for Tyson.

I fancy 205lb Holyfield to beat any version of Tyson.

Agree, I wouldn't sell Holyfield short as long as he was near 200 and up
