To listen to some, Paro somehow bear-hugged and cheap-shotted his way to a victory he would have otherwise lost.

There were any number of moments when the two had an opportunity to swap leather, and when they did, Paro landed more often and generally more cleanly.

The right man won and his tactics were scarcely an outrage.

Matias was also supposed to be a monster. Shame he didnt do what he needed to win...I was a big Matias supporter too

He still is a monster, that hasn't change and my support for him hasn't waned in the least. It's merely a case of Paro bringing a style, chin, hustle and savviness to the table that Matias wasn't adequately prepared for. It happens, and based on what Paro showed me the other day, it'll happen many more times in the future, because he has a skillset that's potentially nightmarish to most of the fighters at 140.

Exactly right, Matias showed him respect after the fight because he knew he'd lost, and kudo's to him for showing far more class than those who try and explain his loss as being a result of dirty tactics. Maybe they should watch an Eusebio Pedroza fight and learn what real dirty tactics are.

In the words of F. Scott Fitzgerald, "The test of a first rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function." Sure, Paro was dirty as hell throughout and like you, I didn't mind all of the warnings from Pabon, I think they were well deserved and not excessive. But Paro also plain and simple outboxed Matias, his strategy was top shelf, while the dirty tactics may have aided him slightly, without the chin, the stamina, the southpaw stance, the hand speed, the volume, the angles, the footwork, the accuracy, the constant turning, forcing Matias to reset, the solid defense, he wouldn't have been able to implement said strategy.

Also, let's not get it twisted, if we want to speak about hypocrisy in the sport of boxing, Had Haney been the one in there that shoved, clinched, rabbit punched, low blowed, headbutted, held and hit, stepped on toes, kidney punched, and roughed up his way to victory. He would have received no warnings or points docked from the biased American ref, they'd have even made sure to blow calls on a few knockdowns scored against for good measure, anything to ensure his victory. Would Matias fans have butched and moaned? Sure they would have. Would Haney's fangirls came to his defense? Sure they would have. But that's par for the course, because that's what fanboys do.

There's absolutely nothing average about Matias. Why undermine and undercut Paro's tremendous win like that? It took literally every weapon in Paro's arsenal to pull off that win, Matias was every bit as relentless as he always is, it took Paro surpassing his output and equalling his willpower to pull it off. The vast majority of opponents if faced with what Paro had coming at him the entire night, would have surely wilted under the pressure, including Haney.

Exactly we are a small populated country but still have fighters that are at elite world level.
The Aussie fighting spirit needs to be recognized more the same way the Mexican style is talked about.

Plainly the biggest rule Paro broke was winning - deal with it.

That’s a good quote and I do want to clear up that I do think Paro both deserved to win and showed a good deal of skill in there. It wasn’t based solely on the merit of his dirty tactics that he won because he did use a lot of good, legal boxing throughout. I think had he not used dirty tactics he probably still could have outboxed Subriel and it would have been a better fight. The point I was trying to get (and probably could have articulated better in the original post) is that, as fans of the sport of boxing, we should want the rules of the sport to be enforced so that we have better fights and get less controversy. There aren’t that many sports where you can repeatedly get away Scott free when breaking the stated rules of that sport afaik. It’s not about fanboyism for either fighter or about being sad that Subriel lost, it’s just about how, regardless of who’s fighting, boxing fans (who moan all the time about corruption in the sport) should be in favour of boxing matches where the rules are followed and we get better fights as a result rather than saying that things which aren’t permitted under the Marquis of Queensberry Rules are just “part of the sport”.

I'd imagine you have watched him far more than me but on the few occasions I have seen him I honestly didn't think much of him
In my eyes he came across as average
Paros win is still a good one, no doubt about it
To go in to anyone's backyard and win a belt is double the achievement

Maybe I need to watch him more but I can only go by what I thought upon seeing him so far
