Margarito is this generation's Mayorga. He will be a gatekeeper with serious danger, but essentially someone to KO or dominate to prove mettle.

Chavez Jr. already showed Margarito's style ineffective against him seeing as how he's the much bigger man and said style is only effective when YOU are the bigger man. At least Rubio had the height to stay alive in the fight. Margarito will be the shorter man taking a tremendous beating and probably suffer permanent, if not immediate, eye damage.

Margarito should fight Victor Ortiz. At least that's a very POSSIBLE fight he can win.

It can be a tough match for Chavez

Chavez is mainly a body banger, he doesn't have Cotto's headhunting skills to thump Margo's eye like Cotto did, so Margo's eye will hold better this time. Margo is a bigger puncher than Rubio and he's at his best fighting on the inside, while Rubio needs room to throw his best punches. Using the same strategy wont work here.

Chavez will be on the receiving end of the pressure this time, and considering he'll be weakened due to rehydrating 20 lbs overnight, against a guy who is a pressure specialist, i'd say Margo has a good chance to stop him, if Chavez doesn't use different tactics.

That been said, Margo is still shot to ****, so it's a winnable fight for Chavez, but not a walk in the park

That would maybe hold if Chavez was the one facing a huge size disadvantage, but Margarito (who has never shown anythin above 147 anyway) is the one who will be the smaller man. This doesn't even get into the obvious decline that's ensued since 2008.

    No I must not.

I just think margo is ****.

His last 4 fights have involved 3 brutal beatings and a win over a no name.

He has no good wins above ww let alone mw.

Margo is a living punch bag at this stage and licensing him to fight live opponents is actually quite irresponsible.

No he can't, Rubio is a medium range banger, he ain't good at delivering his power on the inside, that's why Chavez nullified him with his constant pressure. Margarito is a pressure fighter and he's at his best in close quarters, so his punches at that range would be more effective than Rubio's.

Margarito's power hasn't really even carried up to 154 though, even on the inside. Rubio is an actual middleweight who has stopped other middleweights. Even if you think Margarito is a better inside fighter, I still see him getting easily bullied by a much bigger man in Chavez, and I have no idea why you think he has the punch to bother him at all at this weight.

I can easily name 12 guys I'd pick over Margarito at 154. Against Jr. at 160, I'd go with a Jr. middle round stoppage all day. Easy fight.

At least I hope it even if he has to put poisoned metal plates in his gloves to do so

    Welcome to Texas!

You have a brain bleed? No problem! You have had recent facial reconstruction? Nothing to worry about! You aren't sure if you can pass a drug test? That's great because we don't even enforce those!

This fight wouldn't be pretty for Margarito, like for real.

Margarito is done! He has a big heart and comes to fight but that eye is messed up! Even though if you give it 2 years to heal properly, the eye may get worsened if he decides to fight again.

Margarito you are a warrior and always comes to fight but hang them gloves.

It's not that Chavez is that much better than Margarito ... it's that he's freaking enormous. He's huge now, and Rubio is way way more proven at middle - Margarito is a career welter. This is a crap match up. I can't believe the state of boxing. If I were Margarito I wouldn't take the fight. Chavez has the same style as Margarito, sure he's slower and not as sharp ... than Margarito WAS. Now he is the fresher and decidedly the vastly huger of the two. Bad match up. Could end in death.

    Definitely!

Marg shouldn't be allowed to box at all, not just for his wraps but for his health now.

Arum is ruthless throwing margo to the wolves just for his percentage cut.
