This kid is really growing on me. He's likeable outside the ring and a blast to watch inside it. Always goes for a stoppage but never overextends and keeps calm when necessary. Golovking has such a natural understanding of the game and seems to never commit any mistakes. I rember the fight against Rosado where he realized that he wasn't simply 1-shotting this dude because Rosado kept dodging and fainting pretty effectivly due to his low centre of gravity I think. Golovkin kept calm and capitalized on Rosado's injury which is a smart thing to do obviously. Actually, he reminds me of a MW Mike Tyson with a higher ring IQ. Another analogy is, that both have no A level wins on their resume. Golovkin has proven to absolutely blow the B-level middleweights of the water and that's an entertaining thing to witness. But so did Tyson and from 1990 on, he went on to never win a significant bout in his career. Thing is, Golovkin has not faced anyone of note yet. Even if he were to face Martinez, I'm not even sure if I would rate a win over him that highly considering Sergio's last performance. He just seems to have slowed down so considerably. Obviously he has all the right to show his age at 38 or 39. One might laugh about it, but I give Geale a very decent shot at being highly competitive with Golovkin. And if Quillin gets his **** together and starts throwing double digit shots per round I can see him being a viable opponent as well as I really like his accuracy and power. My point is that Golovkin is clearly very damn good, but there is a very remote chance he could turn out another Lemieux if he tackles the absolute elites of the division. He simply has no meaningful scalps on his resume and until that is resolved, I'll remain very mildly sceptical.
That's a little harsh I think. Wins over Proksa, Rosado, Macklin and Ishida are okay and show that he's a level or two above that. I'm just a little confused about people giving him a shot against Ward, Froch and so forth when he hasn't even been in the ring with an elite MW let alone an A level SMW.
Yes, they're called MMA fans. Anyone who knows and loves boxing knows that GGG is the real deal. All the doubters need to stick to the UFC where the top fighters get knocked out by high school wrestlers that can't even punch.
really? the recognised MW champion Sergio Martinez had problems with tough as nails Macklin, before putting him away late, GG steamrolled over him with such ease that it was almost shocking
You new to bawxn bru???? Ali beat foreman foreman steamed rolled Frazier WhO gave ali probs and BEAT Ali, its called styles make fights, As for the question, I want to see how he fairs against a solid contender who stands a chance.
I have been impressed with what I have seen of Golovkin but as pointed out it's not like he has beaten anyone who was outstanding. Middleweight isn't exactly deep with talent at the moment the only fighter that I can see testing him is the champ Martinez, everyone else he rolls over without too much difficulty. A win over Martinez would prove a lot, even over this faded Martinez, because Martinez's style is something Golovkin has not had to deal with yet as a pro. Everyone Golovkin has faced so far has stood in front of him and was there to be hit. Martinez will move and we haven't see how Golovkin will deal with movement, it's easy to cut off the ring against guys who don't move well and we have seen many big hitters at middleweight like Pavlik, Tito undone when faced with movement. Once Golvkin has shown he can deal with movement then I will be convinced he is the real deal.
He got one top 10 MW on his resume. So that's a start. Add a couple more in impressive fashion and he'll deserve the hype he was getting 4 months ago.
I'm a doubter, but I always give props when earned. GG is a great talent, but we need to see him in a fire fight, and come out bruised a bit, but unscathed.
Depends what you are accusing people of doubting ? Do i doubt he is one of the best middleweights out there ? no Do I think the middleweight division is a strong division ? no Lets stop pretending the 160 division is strong then we can talk
Do I think hes a very good fighter? Yes Do I think hes going to be a fixture in the middleweight division as a champion for years to come? Yes ---------- Do I think hes a great fighter? Not sure yet Do I think hes a future top 3 p4p for years on end? Not sure yet Do I think he will have success above middleweight? I am doubting it, as of now.
Has GG faced a rough and tough champion or #1 contender who was more than capable of beating him yet? NO!
GGG has proven nothing, he has destroyed bums, well so did Price, and when he stepped in the ring with a guy who actually fought for the title, despite being old, fat, slow, even an old man can whip GGG. I believe he is just another hype job with lots of athleticism and decent boxing skill, but when he gets in the ring with a good fighter he will look real bad, once he starts fighting guys who don't stand infront of him he is going to either lose or have a real close fight.
You're a fcukin clown man. Give it up. No one is doubting that he is a really good fighter. But for people to claim that he would KO Chris Byrd? This is the type of **** that people are doubting. He's a great talent, and a good guy outside the ring. His cult-like fans are a little annoying though.
