A jump in weight has a disproportionate effect on fighters whose dominant strengths are speed and agility. Calzaghe, by the laws of physics, is going to be slower and less agile, and thus less effective. It may be just a little less effective, but at the elite level a 'little' can be the difference between dodging a shot and getting ktfo (ask RJJ after he lost just a bit of agility with age) Plus, he's going to be getting hit with heavier shots than he's used to. His reach is also not as long as other LHWs and I'd bet that if you stood Calzaghe next to Hopkins or the other LHWs that he'd look smaller in stature, much the way Maccarinelli looked much smaller than Haye, his frame. But its just my hunch; could be wrong about some things. I'm rooting for Calzaghe, by the way, so I'm not a hater, just a realist.

Hey, I hope you're right. Calzaghe's one of my favorite fighers. I just have my hunches and theories, for whatever that's worth. I'd like to be wrong.

i really don't see the weight making any impact on him at all. he enters fight night at SMW around the LHW max as it is and i can't imagine him piling on any unnecessary pounds by fight night.

if there's one thing you can count on with joe it's that he'll always enter the ring in absolutely tip top shape and at the peak of his physical capabilities. (his hands being the one exception naturally)

But what weight will Hopkins be entering the ring at, 185, I've read? That's a much heavier shot than Calzaghe's accustomed to.

190? That's pretty scary, considering Kessler might have come in at 175 at the time of the fight and his shots definitely got Joe's attention in the early rounds.

i always thought mayweather had underrated punching power, and hatton had been knocked down on numerous occassions anyway, besides that hopkins is no mayweather and joes no hatton, joe aint getting knocked out it wont happen, especially by a guy who made a career of fighting smaler guys
