are top boxers more elite then top mma fighters

For example Jon Jones the most dominant right now, was wrestler and started learning other stuff like muay thai bjj etc i think 4 5 years ago ,and now is champion and destroyed 3 or 4 former champions...

 

MMA champs titles change hands too often. I normally pay more attention to LHW of the UFC and the most dominate of those champs was Chuck Liddell and he use to win most of his fights with haymakers. Now you have Jon Jones who is a very good fighter, but a Anderson Silva or GSP are the exceptions as far as staying power and they for sure are elite. With that said, top boxers or champs are more elite. It is like one other poster mentioned, you could have a elite wrestler go into MMA and could get caught by stryker or a kicker. I am still a believer of an elite boxer beating or having a better chance at beating an elite MMA fighter. It will never happen though. Some one like a Ali/RJJ/SRL/Tyson, etc.

 

This is just pure ignorance. Like saying anyone can swing punches.

It's hard to say, because in boxing the best don't fight each other and just want to protect their image at all costs.

 

Boxing has been around for a long time, it have clearly paid it's dues to take the top spot between both sports. I don't think elite MMA fighters will ever surpass top elite boxers.

 

Just look at that Liddel guy he was at the top of their sport and seemed no more than a drunk hillbilly with one of the wildest hooks to grace our solar system

 

To answer the question I would say yes they are, Boxing has been around for a lot, lot longer as so is very hard to master and you do need to master it to become a champion for the most part.

In MMA though, It is a blend of different styles and so you can win fights if you are good at one of these styles. This is changing a little but it'll always be somewhat that way.

As for the title changing hands more often this is partially due to what I said but also because on thing the UFC does really well is ensure that the best fight the best. You can't duck people in the UFC.

As for Brock Lesnar etc., well thats the downside to the UFC sometimes it is run more like entertainment that a sport. BBF knew he would be a cash cow so he gets him a title shot ASAP just because he is popular. It isn't because the other fighters aren't elite its because BBF got him the shot even though he then got decimated by his next opponents.

 

He was a former divison I wrestler and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business/Accounting in 1995. :thumbsup

He throws wild swings but he hits like a mule and he was the man back in the early days of the UFC and catapulted it into the spotlight. Don't hate on Chuck.
