they literally chose the worst possible boxer they could find to fight in the MMA. you're kidding right?
Except they didn't find him, Toney came hounding Dana White for a payday :deal but it doesn't matter, Its irrelevant. Thats the point I was making.
No, some of these guys are top amateur/collegiate wrestlers. Boxer vs MMA fighter is an easy fight for the MMA fighter in MMA style fight or street fight. All they have to do is take them down and put them in submission hold or ground n pound.
sylvia's last two fights before the mercer bout were title fights toney...well **** it was james toney in 2010
Randy Couture was an Olympic alternate. Dan Henderson represented the USA in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics in greco roman wrestling and Daniel Cormier was on 5 United States world wrestling teams and the 2004 Olympic wrestling team, ending in 4th place.Daniel was also a member of the 2008 Olympic wrestling team for the USA, where he was named team captain, but did not compete due to kidney failure. Not to mention the guys who were great collegiate wrestlers like Mo Lawal, Rashad Evans, Jon Jones etc. Not to mention the high level BJJ guys that come into MMA like Demian Maia, Roger Gracie, Jacare Souza, BJ Penn etc. Its ridiculous that people say that they are just brawlers or its just a street fight or whatever
But why would it be, obviously he posted an exceptional poor example because he is a MMA hater but naturally the striking element isn't going to be as good as boxing. They have so much more to train and worry about as opposed to boxers who train just boxing.
That's not really fair. Lesnar was an NCAA division one champion, which is a very legit credential and he is very agile for a man his size; he just reacted rather poorly to getting punched in the face or kicked in the liver. Personally, professional boxers are more enjoyable to watch because their technique is more polished, but the techniques that they must be responsible for are fewer in number.
