Most are overrated, but I think Steward and Roach are not overrated, at least, not very much so..............

IMO There are many fighters who reached an extremely elevated status and part of it was due to the chemistry with the trainer, them feeling comfortable and the knowledge they brought. Marciano had one of the true geniuses in Charlie Goldman, Roach with Pacquiao.
Guys like Pavlik and Paul Williams are **** blocked from reaching their true potential because of their trainers. Then you have guys like Katsidis who it really doesn't matter they are gonna do what they do.

no if anything trainers are underrated the change from a bad trainer to an average one would do a lot for a boxer

I think Steward has earned the right to cherry pick because early in his career he developed quite a few fighters all the way from the beginning of the amateur career to world titles. That to me is the true measure of a trainer in my opinion.
People **** on Jack Leow all the time, but I disagree. He developed Kelly from amateur to world champion. Quite a feat. He did so by drilling the basics into Kelly's head. The basics have been a constant in boxing because they work. PERIOD THE END. Kelly's demise came because of his lack of discipline in his personal life. People constantly belittle Leows corner advice... making fun of his insistence on Kelly getting the double jab going. Why does he do that? Because thats what he trained Kelly to do, and that's what works for Kelly.
Peterson... well that's obviously another story. I don't think an explanation is needed there.
There are good trainers, and there are bad trainers. I know first hand that a competent trainer can make the difference in sparring, in a round, in a fight, and in a career. Not to mention it's often a thankless job.

I agree with what you say. the only reason I mention Pavlik is because I feel Lowe should have brought in one more guy even an assistant that is world class. You have very valid points about Kelly's discipline but the best example I can give is vs Sergio Martinez. Kelly threw one lead right hand it landed beautifully. Lowe never once told him to work that and mix that in.

A world class trainer may have caught that and mentioned it. But then again it's all moot because of Kelly's personal life.

    good **** though:good

    Right.

Sdunek ruins Wlad. With Emanuel Steward Wladimir can show his great boxing talent and boxing skills.

Steward does alot with Wlad and Lewis.

A good teacher in this sport means a hell of a lot. Don't kid yourselves.
