He got got hit far to much for me. he's a sucker for the uppercut. I stopped with the glass jaw stuff after he fought MAB and the guy after that. I picked him to win against Maidana but his defense and ring IQ are horrible.
Agreed, but he still got hit too many times for me to be impressed. He made no adjustments to keep from eating the uppercut. The thing that will keep Khan from being great are: 1. Lack of ability to adjust his style to counter his opponents success (Pac, Mayweather, Hopkins are all great at this) 2. Power. He just doesn't have the pop to go with the speed. If he did, he would be awesome. Maybe Roach can fix this? 3. Chin. Looks like they are working on this, but he was in "deep water", and it was scary. He won but he was nearly KTFO, and he would have been down at least once more if he were not holding so much. It wasn't some amazing display of force by Khan. It was him barely surviving against an opponent he hand picked, and apparently underestimated. I say underestimated because I'm sure he didn't pick someone who might KTF out of him and take his belt....which damn near happened. I think with some work, Amir could turn out to be a great fighter. He's young and fighting tough guys and has a good coach. Future is looking bright for him. :good
I was impressed... but the ring iq. his iq and inside defence have always been pretty bad, but they still are, whereas he has improved in almost every other department.
There wasn't a person in the world, other than maybe an ultra die hard Khan fan, who went into that fight thinking Khan would survive that many clean shots from Maidana. So yes, impressed.
I was blown away at how good he looked early on, but disappointed that he couldn't do it the entire fight. He got caught with shots that an elite fighter has no business getting caught with. Wide, looping shots...he proved that he is tough, and that his chin has improved, but so what? It's like what I used to say about Gatti...sure, he has a lot of heart...too bad he has to prove it all the time. Khan needs to improve his defense if he wants to go to the next level...the PBF and Pac status. Everyone is talking more about the balls he showed instead of the skills he showed against Maianda, and that ain't necessarily a good thing, not if he wants to reach superstar status.
I was impressed by his skill and toughness. He dug deep when he had to. That being said...he should not really have had to. He made what could've been a relatively easy night for him, a nightmare. A fighter with his length, speed of hand and foot, and overall pedigree should not be getting hit continuously with flush, predictable, overhand rights and uppercuts all night.
The future is bright for him, It'll probably be another 4 years till he's in his physical as well as his skill set prime, and in that time I expect he will achieve a lot. I agree it could have been better, but that is not to say it was a poor performance, cause beating Maidana is a huge task for 99.99% of fighters, so all in all it was a good performance. If Khan had avoided that huge shot that put him on ***** street for the majority of the tenth round it may well be appropriate to say it was a great performance, but as it stands a good performance in my eyes. :good
It was not the perfect performance, but a fighter often criticized for his "glass jaw" took hellacious punches from a known powerpuncher, and fought his way through it. How can that not be impressive?
Impress... i didn't think he could take those shots from maidana. He just needs to work on defense and he'll be hard to beat. Bring on bradley so he can get his ass whoop. Roach is the motha****ing man. pac-khan the best @ 147-140 son:good
It's good to know that he can take some shots, but I hope he doesn't ever do that **** again. Now is the time to start boxing intelligently for Amir.
- More disappointed because he can be classed as a intelligent fighter - because he has the athleticism to not get hit, but got walloped left right and centre. - Maybe I'm underestimating Maidana' positive attributes as he is a very good pressure fighter who has 'abnormal power (Kevin Kelly' discription), so therefore tiring Khan out but, - The 10th round, where he gets wobbled, ruined the whole performance for me. - God knows how the hell he got through - me thinks it was Alex Ariza strengthening those legs that held his body up. - Strong legs are good tools for any sport.
