I believe HBO is running Pavlik-Hopkins on PPV that night.

Peter-Klitschko and Dawson-Tarver will be on Showtime.

that is true sparring should be key for vitali at the moment, he gas been inactive for too long to just be working on mainly conditioning even though that is important

Who cares? It wont matter how big Vitali's arms are come fight night, when he's getting his head pounded in by Samuel Peter. I cant wait for this match, maybe then people will start to respect Samuels boxing ability and one punch power.

What the hell?, I thought HBO will be all over this.

On topic, his arms look normal to me. Vitali never had muscular arms like his younger brother.

    Yes.

His arms look as big as they were, if not a little bigger.

id rather he be smaller and leaner. it shows he's fit and ready. Peter looks like he swallowed another person who swallowed a midget at the press conference. i reckon he weighed 265-270 :yep

size of the arms means nothing. look at a guy like Lacy then look at Pavlik who is a killer in the ring. u'd never guess if you based it on looks. guys like pavlik and vitali are just very 'heavy handed' like my hero lennox said :yep

I disagree. Strength and punching power does not come from thin air, you know. A tricep and anterior deltiod generate a puncher's power (along of course, with leg thrust, etc).

And while some fighters with less developed arms have obvious power, overall, the fighters with the more developed musculature more often than not, have more power

    ......... but, that's another thread.

Vitali looks as developed as ever, from where I am sitting, and I think he has probably put in a bit more weight training into his preparation than he would if he were fighting someone else. I think Vitali wants power, and lots of it, with which to take Peter out.........I think he said his plan is to knock Peter out in something like four to six rounds.

I dont think thats true at all. I dont think there is a correlation between the guys with punching power and muscle mass. A lot of smaller guys like hearns , corrales and trinidad can bang. I agree that the larger guys are overall stronger and that can help when they can move the other guy around where they want him on the inside. Like Winky vs Tito. Tito is by far the harder hitter but Winky is the bigger and stronger guy.

well i didnt mean 'nothing' but it's not the be all, end all in determining strength. it's a factor but some guys just have 'heavy hands' (i.e. Vitali) and some dont (i.e. Povetkin)

i would say technique is also a major factor. look at sam peter. he probably has the most "raw" power of anyone out there. however, his inconsistent technique limits his power. Guys like Wlad and Pavlik maximize their power by throwing shorter and straighter punches.

I disagree with Heavyrighthand, if the guys with the biggest muscles were the harder hitters, then why dont we see more body builders getting into the sport of boxing? Some of the hardest hitting Heavyweights in the sport werent that muscular, Dempsey 6'0 190-195, Marciano 5'10 180-185, Frazier 5'11 210-215, the list goes on. What matters most when talking about power, is technique, the twist in the hips, the snap at the end of the punch, most of it is learned through repetition.

I agree with that, but what I am saying is that two fighters, both with the same technique, training, etc............the fighter with the more developed musculature will more often than not, have more power.

That stands to reason. Power comes from a muscle, first and foremost, with technique enhancing the power the muscle generates, in the first place. And more developed muscles mean more power with which to build on with good technique. That goes without saying, I would think....
