Who cares about the weight? It's the skills that matter. That is why Pac will not get in there with a true LMW. I don't mean Martinez either...I mean any LMW with good boxing skills, and carries the weight better than Margarito. That was a SHOWCASE bout, where the odds were 6:1 in favor of Manny. They, essentially, brought Margo up to LMW (all his meaningful bouts were at WW) to make that happen. He hit a defenseless Marg over 700 times (mostly powershots). He will not hit JMM nearly that many times...because he will get countered in the process.
Of course size is important too, that's why we have (too many) weight classes. Pac can beat bigger fighters where he has significant speed and skills advantages but where these advantages are small (like if he fought Martinez) then it's asking a bit much!
How do we know this? Seriously...How do we know this? Maybe JMM shouldv'e fought some STAND-STILL-EASY-2-HIT Fighters north of 135lbs. But he fought a fighter that's hard to lay a glove on. So again....HOW DO WE KNOW HOW GOOD JMM IS NORTH OF 135LBS. You can count on ONE HAND the number times that FMJ has been hit in his career....and so beacuase JMM could hit him....this somehow means JMM can't compete North of 135lbs....REALLY, SERIOUSLY? You guys are Comedy!!!!
i think marquez gets destroyed at 147, is high competitive at 140 but i still think mosley is more dangerous. not the better fight, but more dangerous
Marquez won around 16rounds out of 24 when they fought, now Pacquaio is bigger, still primed while Marquez has slowed a little. But styles make fights and if the size doesn't completely over awe Marquez its another razor thin decision
The smart money is on Manny, of course. He has EVERY physical advantage (same has always been true for this matchup). But, Marquez is the smarter fighter, with great timing, amazing recuperative powers, and an advantage of having fought Manny on two occasions (which he won the most rounds). This fight will be competitive if no early stoppage occurs. If it goes 12, Manny will not look good, in either victory or defeat.
Exactly...JMM called out the best boxer in the world, and went up in weight to fight him. And he got outclassed by Floyd, as every other opponent on Floyd's resume has. This is not an accurate gauge of how well he would do against lesser skilled fighters at that same weight.
