I boxed myself from 2002 to 2006, I boxed in front of Ricky Hatton in Blackpool and I boxed at Preston Guildhall (I lost against the same guy from Preston in both fights lol). I'll be honest though, I wasn't the best fighter ever lol!!

I used to spar with some lads who have now turned pro and aren't doing bad and a lad from the same gym I went to beat Gary Sykes 3 times in the amateurs.

    So what?

If you have never been in the ring, you have no idea how tiring it is.

    Fighting?

Weren't you the guy who said you wouldn't box, because of looks?

I'll bet if you go to the gym and spar you'll find you aren't in fighting shape.

as would 99% of pro and amateur boxers not in training for a fight.

I said I didn't want to anymore because I don't want to get a messed up face.

not correct. most boxers, amateur or pro would still be ticking over and training a few times a week and wouldnt gas when sparring.

the really good guys who no longer fight can still spar plenty of rounds as long as the pace isnt insane as they have the skills and ability to do it.

i have seen someone like spencer fearon spar 8,9,10 rounds with white collar guys back to back. new white collar guy each round. some of the rounds lasting 4 or 5 minutes.

as far as I can see spencer doesnt do any specific training these days, just training others. but the thousands of rounds of training and sparring he has done over the years mean he can spar for ever.

however a fight at a fast pace afgainst someone of a similar standard meas he would be ****ed after a couple of rounds.

I havent addressed that as well as I was hoping but fingers crossed everyone gets the point! :good

You probaly are in good shape - if you excercise like this.

But if you never - spar - never fight - not used to taking punches - or timing or distance and hitting a live opponnet - how can you expect to be competitive to someone who is used to doing this as part of their training / competiton ?

    Thats more like it.

You boxed competitvely - so that puts you on a level above me and many others on here.

Same in terms of sparring - I sparred some amateurs - and a couple went on to turn pro - in boxing / cage fighting.

Never acutally sparred a pro though - probaly for the best - dont want to get my face rearranged.

Would consider sparring again in future - to take my training to another level - never plan to fight competively though - and make weight and all that bollocks.
