Are we all just fans or do a few of you box?

  1. I remember just after Dennis Wise took over at Leeds he got them all on the bleep test.

Apparently Sean Gregan had to drop out after level 8.

I've only ever done it once, in high school a few of us were invited by Leeds Met to help their sports science students with a bit of research, was an interesting day.

100m sprint and the bleep test..... level 13.1 and that was me done. Didn't find the pace too traumatic, it was the stopping and turning around that was murder.

For the rest of the rugby season the ''making a tackle, getting up, getting back ten and then moving up'' was a piece of ****.

there is more to it than just being pyhsically fit & healthy....

If you cant keep a clear mind and relax when punches are flying towards your face you will be out of breath within a few minutes.

you can only get that type of fit by sparring realistically hard.

I agree with this .This is a good article .

Fitness Boxing, you train like a boxer in everything but full contact sparring

Tbh I think anybody athletic wise man should love the sweet science if they start training

Beginners are amazed at how quickly their heart rate accelerates and their arms, shoulders, obliques and legs run out of gas.

Training to fight though man I think you need to live eat sleep and dream boxing .I need to dedicate myself a bit more man to fight .I agree with an earlier post it's not a sport you can half ass .If I was more dedicated i'd have probably fought by now . I just hope my training pays off one day .

    yup,****ing A curtis.

i boxed for a few years in late 80s early 90s,could of been half decent if i bothered training hard and not being a complete **** head :nut. trained and sparred 100s upon 100s of rounds with some good ams and pros from around lancs.

i was down our local boxing gym last night,me and me mate, a ex pro we go down every weds, hour and 15mins circuit training, bagwork, skipping, floorwork ect ect then a few rounds body sparring,no head, the wife would kill me if i come home marked up,and i can't spar to the head, doctors orders:|,i love it,even at 42,

when me and blue (the ex pro)get in the ring everyone thinks we have fell out,we just wanna hurt each other :bbb

i agree on the fitness thing,i could spar round after round but running miles,**** that,i get knackered and bored shitless half way and go into nearest pub:deal

please tell me when I said they were the same thing?

firstly...as i pointed out in my origional post....i have boxed....not to a high standard but i have done it so i do have some idea.

you questioned whether i was physically fit enough, and mentally strong enough to box. I can tell you categoricly 100% that I am as I have done it before. But I have more important things going on in my life, and I am not in a position where I can dedicate enough time to training, or be in a position to get black eyes....and i don't want the shape of my face to change. you can keep talking **** all you like about "my face has never changed....blah blah blah" but mine has from previous expirience of boxing and fighting. I have a scar above my right eye from a boxing match years ago, i have a huge scar on my forehead from where i was hit on the head in a fight, and my nose is a different shape to how it was when i was younger due to being punched there.

I no my own ****ing face. you dont!!!

So you're counting a mess about fight vs a mate as experience to argue with Curtis?

Nice one, I've changed my perspective :good

I know you don't have the time and all. But if you get the urge to box again, don't let looks hold you back. Get a headgear with a facebar. I have recently spent all my money on a fg5000.

fair enough, however you made drastic similarities between your own fitness and fitness of top level amateurs in relation to boxing training which is all wrong

btw i never said my face hasnt changed it has changed but its not marciano like which were what you were making out would happen to your pretty boy looks if you boxed, this is where this all stemed from, when i read this first thing that popped into my head was a full face guard, the excuse seemed a bit iffy

Its not an excuse. I dont want to box for the reason i listed and theres nothing wrong with that. Just because you box doesnt make you better than me which is what you have inplied this whole thread.

Want me to start listing my sucesses in life to try and belittle you.

Boxing would rewin the way I look. I like the way I look. Its better than lookong in the mirror every day ad wanting to kill myself. Get over yourself you self righteous twat.
