We have a highly skilled unified champ in wlad klitschko, maybe at last going to fulfil his potential ? We have the returning bigger and badder brother in vitali klitschko who is coming straight back with no tune up to fight the heavy handed wbc cham mr Sam "who nex" peter Alexander Povetkin a great talent, looks certain to wlads next fight We have the unified cruiserweight champ ko artist David haye making his first real fight at heavy. Chris Areola starting to turn a few people's heads from the usa Valuev seemingly improved boxing ability in his 2nd reign Also honurable mentions to the always tricky James Toney Still hanging about but i think done rahman Hopefully a returning Chageav Ibragimov beaten on points by wlad There are other names that can be mentioned but i think the heavyweight division looks more exciting then it has in years. Well certinaly since the retirement of lennox Lewis. Any one else getting a bit more excited about the big guys ?
I would like to see how the year plays out. I wish they would fight the top names more often. It seems everyone takes so much time off.
i agree with you i love the HW division and i think it is finally picking up people will prob tear me apart for saying that but i think its going to get better
Yeah ive been the same it was my favorite division as a kid growing up, but just of late its starting to look intresting again.
Im 31 so i was born in 1977 So growing up all i heard was about ali and frazier etc.... Then we got spoilt with all the heavies of the late 80's and 90's even to a point the early 00's, of course then lewis retired and vitali went by the by and the division seemed to die a death. Just lately though a spark has ignited the fire again, perhaps its haye moving up and vitali also returning to fight peter and some good prospects coming through like povetkin, solis and arreola. We have had some **** years, but of course wlad vs haye will be one of the richest fights of next year guarenteed and yes the world will be watching. I just hope they both make it through with out slipping up first.:good
Too tentative to engage. All he does is paw at the other guy for 12 rounds with his jab and throw the occasionally right hand behind it. His technically solid but not very exciting to watch. Quitali is too injury prone. He's not gonna be around long-term, even if he does be some miracle manage to make it in the ring for the Peter fight. Peter is crap himself. Hayemakers and rabbit punches have got him where he is today. Though he seems to have found out what a jab is recently. He does look a good fighter, but he gets by mainly on his pressure and work rate and offensive variety. A bit open defensively though and doesn't have great power. I like watching him fight though. Who should bring real excitement to the heavyweight division, providing he doesn't fall at the first test and get knocked out in November. True. For whatever reason. The guy is not going to be the next great thing though like some are led to believe. Improved, yes. Boring, yes. He's not very enjoyable to watch. Tricky because of his technique. But the guys condition is awful, as is his obviously lack of commitment. He's going nowhere in the divison and should retire soonish. Always good for excitement though. The guys an opportunity for a highlight reel KO. Yeah but he's done as you say, he's not going anywhere now. Merely a gatekeeper. Who is a decent enough fighter, but very injury prone. Not active enough at all for my likeing and that's why I haven't taken much notice. Again, not active enough. He should of been back in the ring by now. He could potentially pick up an alphabet strap again but he's not going to come back as a strong champion again. His snoozefest with Wlad has also put me off watching him. Not really. I'm looking forward to seeing Haye obviously, and I like to watch Povetkin fight aswell.
Good post, mate! We also have two promising young heavies: Denis Boytsov and Odlanier Solis. We also have the probably biggest banger in Vladimir Virchis facing one of the naturally most talented guys at heavy in Juan Carlos Gomez in a eliminator fight. We have a huge and powerful K1 fighter(Ustinov) who gives it a try at heavy weight. Heavy weight is better than its present reputation among a certain section of us fight fans. Anyone remember Larry Holmes and those bums who were so-called top fighters at that era??
It's gotten a little better. Wlad-Povs and Vitali-WHONEX?! are good fights, not to mention Nipple and Haye are on their way towards making an impact. Still crap but better.
I agree, the division is on the upswing, and has been steadily improving over the last couple years. -Wlad / Peter gave the division a good jolt and created alot of interest -Wlad finally getting a chance to, and sucessfully, unifiying two of the four titles - Haye entering the heavyweight division, given he is such an amazing talent and powerful, fast, aggressive fighter who has the cockiness to make you want to see if he can back up his mouthing in the ring - Golota / Briggs being a possibility, with the winner getting themself another run at a title.............( at least I think that is a good fight that will be very interesting)...if not Briggs, Golota is sure to create interest if and when he finally gets one more titleshot, seeing as how him entering the ring creates such car wreck appeal.........LOL - Vitali's return, after having retired without losing his title........and fighting Peter, cold, after four years and a few surgeries..........very bold move. -the possibiliy of Vitali facing Valuev at some point in the future, making a very interesting fight between two behemoths, both with iron chins - a couple of decent/good up and comers in Solis and Arreola - Povetkin, still being undefeated, getting his chance at the recognized top heavyweight in Wladimir.... I agree, the division has some good things going on, and is not near as bad as many seem to think it is..........and its steadily getting better. I think Valuev having his title back is a rather boring and unexciting aspect, though. As big as the guy is, he puts you to sleep when he fights, even though you gotta admit he's improved and is light years better than any other giant in boxing history..........he's still boring as HELL and I can't think of any reason to watch him fight, other than to see him in with a big puncher to see if they can knock him out......LOL But snoozers like Valuev, Ruiz, Chagaev, etc aside..........the division is on an upswing and getting steadily better, overall.
-I think the heavyweight division is fine talent-wise. -Finding promoters willing to make meaningful fights is another matter -Wlad may have unified two trinkets, but the heavyweight division still lacks a lineal champion.
Well the way i see it to begin a new lineage you have to be undisputed champion as in Wba, Wbc and Ibf champ i do still disregard the wbo when it comes to undisputed im afraid call me old fashioned. Then we have a true undisputed champ and thus begins the lineage the man that beat the man etc........... There hasnt been alineal champ since lewis retired and thats to god damn long!!!!!!!!!!!!
