Are we just going to ignore Sergio Garcia beating Cheeseman?

Via UD in Cheeseman's backyard. How good is this Garcia? His boxrec credentials are far from staggering, and the unflattering and unfortunate photo, reminiscent of a young Christopher Reeve caught in a deer-in-headlights pose, does the young buck no justice either. Any Sergio experts care to chime in?

Lol fair play to the guy, Cheeseman is 'Euro level' tho.. That has always been pretty obvious.

Sergio leaps to number 2 p4p spanyard. Would really grate on Cheeseman, as Garcia has an unflattering record. Sounds like a few holes were exposed in Cheeseman's game, which can happen to these guys; once you dig beneath the rind there's little more than Euro level pith. Cheeseman to learn from this and hopefully not melt away into obscurity. Sergio Garcia moves to 29-0 and has now beat the guy who beat the guy who ran Kell Brook to a MD. It's not much; but it's something. And he's a 6 footer super welter to boot. Amir Kahn vs Garcia for the EU title isn't a ridiculous proposition. You heard it here first.

As one of the very few that predicted a Garcia win, I'm not ignoring it at all. He did exactly what I thought he could do, it was truly a pleasure to watch. Sergio ive long thought to be one of the most underrated guys In Europe, and he justified my faith in him

I am watching this fight on the sky sports repeat soon, because I didnt catch this one last night. However judging by his performance against Byfield and previous performances its not that surprising. The only reason I was on the fence was because Garcia himself had faced absolutely no one in his entire career, so we had no idea the level he was at.

However as far as Cheeseman goes, he was wobbled and using his face as a defence against Byfield. Whilst trying to knock Byfield out he was getting caught with the most obvious counters, and wobbled. His defence is far too leaky and he is too crude to be anything other than between British and European level.

I will give a judgment on Garcia after seeing how he deals with the Cheese.

Cheeseman is the latest British overhyped bum to get exposed. There is a clear pattern.

Always thought it was strange matchmaking from Matchroom. This was a big risk for Cheeseman and now dampens enthusiasm for a Cheeseman vs Fowler showdown.

Matchroom are under a bit of pressure from sky to deliver some good fight nights this year and build some stars. Obviously Cheeseman can come back from this but seems odd matchmaking and obviously isn’t what marchroom intended.

Im no Sergio expert but it dont take no expert to see there was levels between them 2. As a fellow Brit through the years ive seen this time and time again. A basic style from Cheeseman who was just better than the guys hes been facing and that basic style has overpowered them. But that basic style is there to be picked apart as soon as said fighter steps up beyond domestic level.

Give it some time and maybe Cheeseman can again try to be the champion at Euro title level but hes never going to be good enough to break into the world stage and expect to win things. Its a shame i like the Brit but facts are facts we cant all be the best. He is a hell of alot better than many fighters but there are plenty of fighters who are a hell of alot better than him.

But you gotta be in it to win it and atleast he was in it.

Garcia definitely looks around world level.

He had good enough movement and work rate to completely dominate Cheeseman. Only the 8th round was competitive.

He looks like he lacks the power to be really elite but is definitely going to be a force, and should be positioning himself for a world title shot soon.

my only worry about Garcia is that he doesn't have the power to really trouble the champs who have good chins. Thats my only worry for him. BUt for sure through work-rate he can really have a shot against the top 10 at 154. His work-rate was unbelievable after the fight he was not even blowing. Does anyone agree he looks a little like Joe Calzaghe?

Cheeseman is a solid fighter, Garcia should be getting a world title soon. Looks very capable.
