The heavyweight division isn't the be-all and end-all of boxing you dickhead. And **** Pac/May, a proper boxing fan jus wouldnt give a **** about those two ***gots anymore..

Lots of great fights and fighters out there.

the biggest issue is the politics. that's what's ruining it more than anything right now.
a large amount of potentially great fights don't happen due to politics.
and the recent spate of extremely bad decisons and scorecards only marrs the sport further.
the fact that Lopez would've won on saturday had it gone the distance cements this fact.
there's no lack of talent (albeit the HW division is contextually 'weak'....), the lower weights are just as full of talent as ever. so whats spoiling it? politics. look at the Juanma/ Gamboa fiasco. never happened when the fans wanted it and now never will.
plenty more similar scenarios. promoters wanna milk every last buck out of it rather than give the fans what they want.

This era is just fine for the most part even with the Heavyweight division not being the crowned jewel of the sport it once was. It's not the sport that is the problem, it's another so called sport "MMA" that is the problem. As long as the average person, wannabe tough guy/fighter, and jocks that couldn't cut it at other sports are dumb enough and poorly educated enough about and or in boxing to think that MMA is so great, so superior, and that UFC is in fact "Ultimate Fighting", boxing is screwed. See, the average person can sit on their couch and understand what is going on in an MMA bout because it's not very complicated to begin with. There's nothing complicated to comprehend about it, it's not a "Sport" that requires and great level of understanding or skill to "get". Since they can grasp what is going on so easily it makes them like it more because it makes them feel like they know something about fighting, or makes them think they could do it too, or some **** like that. When most people watch a boxing match they don't have a ****ing clue what they are watching, or the significance of what's going on or what each man is doing and how they are doing it. Because they don't know **** about it and can't comprehend the depth of it, they in turn do not like it. They can't connect to it because they don't actually know anything about fighting, so they go back to the ground and pounding, choking people, twisting arms to make people say uncle, sissy kicks, shitty footwork, poor conditioning, no concept of a solid jab or any other punches, complete lack of lateral movement in any comprehensive manor, glass jaws, overblown ego's from insecure beefhead dicks, lack of intelligible strategy, and dry humping that is offered by MMA, they can connect with that. Boxing however, is just fine and we have been fortunate in this most recent era actually to have quite an abundance of good fighters and great fights.

politics, too many belts and too many weight classes are spoiling this fine sport.

All these Junior weight classes, catch weight fights etc etc, so many belts the best don't need to fight the best they can pick and choose as they see fit.

The demographics of Boxing has changed more than anything. As a world sport boxing is doing fine, if not proffesionally the best it's been. Just because the titles aren't being hogged by Americans and American promoters anymore doesn't mean that boxing is crap. It's just the same as it's always been in terms of talent pool. Maybe not so the heavyweight division, but overall.

I'm sorry, Marquez and Hopkins are more than just elites and they've taken on the best in their divisions.

    140 is loaded with talent.

Featherweight is loaded with talent, and has a few real hot prospects.

Gamboa, Ward, Donaire, Rios, all have potential star quality and are climbing the ladder towards elite status as well.

This era may not be stacked in terms of All Time Great quality, but it has plenty of healthy, skillful, entertaining competition to go around on top of the 5 or so true greats we have still giving us good fights, despite the drama. I'm sure there have been greater lulls.

Yet it was this era that produced the richest fight in history, DLH vs Mayweather and could still break that record if Pac and Mayweather fight.

This era is great. If you're one of those whiners with baseless opinions, go to UFC.

Threads like these are created all the time. I bet boxing was also "dead" to some ******s back during Ali's era.

No, just you and that has nothing to do with the fact that there are no black HWs in the top 10.

It was. See the newspaper headlines.

Every contemporary boxing era is the worst ever, every dam decade.

Boxing fans love to jerk off to nostalgia.

Did you miss the fight on Saturday?

I do agree that promoters for the most part are taking too long to build up prospects but great fights can and are still being had. If anything we can blame promoters but the talent is still out there man.

Saturday just restored my faith in boxing. Although the scoring almost ruined it....
