I like ONE championship which is an MMA promotion that also shows kickboxing, Muay Thai and submission grappling matches. It's the peak of martial arts entertainment for me.
One is aces. It just isn't mainstream because of the timezone differences. https://gfycat.com/gifs/search/mma
The talent pool might get better but I dont see it ever being able to shake off the vibe that its boxing for guys that couldnt be elite in actual boxing. Like I said there just arent enough unique aspects and technical nuances to it to make it its own thing like MMA or kickboxing, so unless these BK promotions can start bringing in elite prime boxers by the bucketload (which seems highly unlikely) the ceiling is never gonna be all that high. Imo the best that can be hoped for is it gets high level enough that its no longer a place for 40 year old MMA guys to come for a few more paydays.
Their card on Friday in Lumpinee Stadium was spectacular, it seems their Friday fight cards are always great.
Bareknuckle is bloodsport not competition sport. The eyes are too vulnerable ignoring broken hands and bad cuts but once you get a detached retina it's GG. To have a prolonged "career" requires completely different techniques and approach whereby you actually can't be aggressive, it's about targeted methodical attacks with pulled punches and Palm, cuff or if legal open hand attacks....
No, it's a primitive pseudo sport not worthy of a gentleman boxing fan's time. The high quality posters we have here on ESB would never go for this barbaric dreck!!
I appreciated it being done once, so we could see it captured with modern cameras. Not really something I want to watch every weekend though.
I think it will claim its place as a niche sport but will struggle to grow much more than currently. Fair play to the fighters, balls of steel.
