Are we writing off Kovalev a bit too prematurely?

People are making him out to chopped liver....

I'm not saying Kovalev has any kind of future as an elite light heavy, but Canelo isnt an elite light heavy.
If Canelo had stopped or even dominated GGG, I might give him a much larger edge, but I have a feeling that Kovalev will be a bit tougher than Rocky Fielding, who should be barred from ever fighting abd collecting a paycheck ever again.

It is true that Kovalev's heart and soul were shattered by Andre Ward, but Canelo isnt Andre Ward. I do think if he can get in on Kovalev's body, Canelo is brutal enough and Kovalev is weak enough to allow for a spectacular KO win for Canelo, or quite possibly at least a quit job stoppage.

But that's a big if. People are just acting like Kovalev's gonna lay on the ropes and let Canelo tee off on his midsection. I think the size and reach factor will be a much bigger challenge for Canelo than people are anticipating. I will say Canelo has been with bigger guys before, like JC Chaves, so we'll have to wait and see.

Finally, while it is true that Ward took away Kovalev's heart and then his soul, I do think Kovalev can find the fire to get up for a fight of this magnitude. I'm sure psychology he must know he is still the bigger man, and who knows he may even relish in the underdog role and take it as a bit of a disrespect.
