So essentially what you're saying is that a fighter should be able to hold on to his titles for as long as he likes, without defending them in the ring, so long as he declares a legitimate injury. Right.

What's this nonsense? Chagaev defended his title 4 months before facing Wladimir then faced Wladimir in a unification fight. I really don't get how a fan can have a problem with that.

    :huh

After defending his title against Skelton he didn't fight for a further 12 and a half months.

It is getting stupid, this diamond nonsense is the worst thing any of them have come out with.I suppose as a fighter it would still mean something to win one of the top 4 belts once so you could have the newspaper clippings etc and could always say"I was world champ"But as a fan world title fights mean less and less each year.

Is there a reason why you keep ignoring the above?

Do you understand, that this fight took place over a year after his defence against Skelton?

Am I to understand that you are of the opinion that a fighter should be able to hold on to his titles for as long as he likes, without defending them in the ring, so long as he declares a legitimate injury?

    Yes or no?

How is saying Haye wasn't World Champion rubbish? At the time of his WBA victory Wladimir Klitschko was widely accepted as the World Heavyweight Champion rather than just an alphabet title holder. I think it just depends on how you value the alphabet titles. I still consider Sergio Martinez to be World Middleweight Champion, for example - the other champions are merely alphabet titleholders.

People have there own reservations on what titles carry certain weight. I agree it is at a point now were it is ridiculous the amount that are on offer. Me personally if I was a boxer growing up, definitely the FULL WBC belt. Although I'll probably get slated, theres nothing like that green belt.

Of course not but that's not the case here. He defended it and then had a unification fight where the rules say unification takes precedence over a mandatory (ie Valuev), simple really. If you want to pretend Povetkin and Haye are genuine WBA World champions then work away, be my guest.:good

I was replying to a statement which bracketed Povetkin and Haye together, a post inferring that they had held the same title at different times, which is of course nonsense.

I never referred to Haye as 'World Champion' at heavyweight and indirectly referred to him as the 'WBA champ'. If Black2023 had called him a mere 'titlist' I wouldn't have disagreed.

You are deliberately ignoring my point, because you have no answer. I'm not going to bite any longer.

Ah, fair dues. Povetkin's "title" really is absurd, but not that surprising given it's the WBA.

The WBA heavyweight title has been a joke since Lewis gave it up.

The WBA Heavyweight title has been a joke since Ernie 'won it', when a certain person pointed out he had got no problem with the Vietcong. What was his name, Terrell? ;)
