Are you allowed to become sponsored in an amateur fight?

I heard somebody briefly talking about how somebody can become sponsored in an amateur fight. But if you were so good that somebody would want to sponsor you I don't see why you wouldn't just go pro :?. Plus it seems like the people holding the amateur fight wouldn't allow this to happen since amateur boxing isnt supposed to be about making money (at least that's what I've always thought). Anyways, does anybody know if this is true? And if so, could you please explain how you would go about doing it?

It's not a big deal and happens a fair bit I'd imagine. I got a few people, a company owner and just some random dude who's got some bucks who pays money for my travel and coaches, some other things too. They get some perks too i believe. It's a tax write off for starters. Also the company gets some free advertising on our home shows and our fliers. Not sure how to go about it, just got asked so was prob my coach set it up or sumthin.

There is next to no money in this sport to even compete unless you get a gym that can sustain a solid membership base, and charge enough to keep the doors open and expenses. Not many can, it costs a lot. We're set up as a non profit org for tax breaks and that helps. Still have to hold raffles and all sorts of **** which ain't a lot of fun...sitting in a mall selling tickets all day long, but hey, if you want to compete...it costs money.

It's not tons of money, and just helps with expenses in my case. Thankfully not having to wear some cheesy satin robe w/ "Fred's Wholesale Used Office Furniture" on the back of it.

Yes but its usually the club that is sponsored. They'll have Barry's Motors on the back. I saw it last Saturday, alot of low level guys had sponsors.

If you okay with your coach I think it will be okay.

Yeah thats kind of how we're set up too. Except our gym does "pull-tabs" which is some goofy form of local gambling I didn't know existed until I moved to Minnesota. And we are also set up as a charitable boxing organization.
