So, it seems a good bet that the mega-fight between pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will be made. And if the bout is signed, it seems certain to attract a large, possibly even record-setting, pay-per-view audience.

One would think that many in that potential audience would be casual or new boxing fans. People who may be able to be drawn into becoming long-term boxing enthusiasts given a compelling introduction to the sport.

The concern among some serious boxing followers is that Mayweather's pot-shot-and-run style will end up, instead, alienating these casual watchers and turning them off from the sport entirely. Such viewers may choose to spend their hard-earned dollars on future MMA pay-per-views instead of giving boxing a second chance.

The question for the thread is this:

Please vote in the poll and share your feelings in a post. Also for consideration and along the same lines: If Floyd Mayweather wins the bout using such a style, will you consider it to have been a "legitimate" victory or a tarnished one?

Seriously you make some good points here, he ain't exciting to watch to casual fans because of his safety first style, if the fight IS exciting it will be because Manny is forcing Floyd to work.

You got me worried now, specially if Floyd starts ducking through ropes and grabbing onto Pac and all his other spoiling **** he tries to do to avoid getting hit :think

Most def,as huge as this fight is i also think it will be a huge disappointment like Tito-DLH was.

The cherrypicker will bring his track shoes and pot shot his way to a boring sprint decision win.

Im pretty certain that Floyd will not engage especially if Pac is hitting even harder by the time those 2 fight. It's going to be similar to the Marquez encounter with Mayweather looking to box from the outside and keep Manny at arms length and just pot shotting him. I've said this all along it wont make for an exciting fight. You only have to look at Floyds fights at Welterweight and you will see what I am talking about. He has great ring generalship but for casual fans who want to see a tear up unfortunately I cannot see it happening. Floyd will never put himself into the lions den to be forced into a tear up, the only way he gets forced into a tear up is against a much bigger opponent who is constantly enforcing size and strength and punch power on him. Then he will find it alot harder to keep the bigger guy off and that is why he ran away from Baldomir whilst trying to pot shot him for 12 rounds in one of the worst fights ever, that fight sent me to sleep after 3 rounds and the undercard didn't help the cause either.

God, that was a disaster. I remember being at a pizza joint after that fight and people were ticked off with the fight and the decision. Let's hope that a similar thing doesn't happen if the Pac-PBF fight goes down. :(

Their styles mesh pretty well, it should be an entertaining fight.

I hope so -- millions will be watching if it goes down.

It's like bringing NBC into your house. If it looks like crap with clothes thrown all over the place and dishes undone, that's all anyone will remember, even if the cameras come back later.

    *fingers crossed*

To boxing fans it will be perfection. To new/casual fans it will be a letdown.

    DLH was robbed!

At the same time you have a valid point i was so hacked off after the build up to this fight and i reckon the hype for Mayweather/Pacquiao will overshadow a boring fight and Mayweather by UD

Pac will make it worth, and will make him work. Pac's not a fan of running.

No, I'm not worried. The guy who deserves to win will win. Either way. If any fans, casual or no, don't like it, so be it. It will be boxing history. Two ATGs whose styles couldn't possibly differ any more will square off. It'll be damned interesting.

If they wanna c skill-less figting they can go watch MMA.

If they are anything like a purist they will be impressed by Floyd's skill.

Winning is the most important thing for Floyd, as long as he wins I'm sure he wont care about what some "casual" fans think..Either way **** em, if they dont like it they can move on.

You gotta remember that the DLH-Tito fight was called the fight of the milenium and was one of the most highly awaited fights in many years, but now ten years gone by since it happened that fight is hardly talked about cause despite being a huge fight at the time it ended up being a tremendous disappointment.

Perfection? LOL, running is no perfection but if the pre 135 FMW shows up then it might be perfection, but the current FMW sucks big time. Boring!!! However, Pacman will make FMW fight by trapping his ass whenever he can. Pacman will catch him. If the slower Marquez can catch FMW I'm pretty dog on sure that Pacman will catch Floyd.

To answer the TS question, no, I'm not concern because the fans and Pacquiao will pressure Floyd to fight. Once he does fight, lights out Floyd... good night!!!
