you should get in the ring and tell a boxer that lets see how long you last. I bet when you was a kid your sister use to whip your butt

Well he has to make himself believe that. But I don't think he signed the fight thinking about his legacy more than he thought about the money.

    Not intended to hijack but the point made earlier about boxing being the least effective form of self defense is interesting. I do not agree and I came up with some forms that I would much rather have elite boxing as opposed to elite;

    TKD
    Akido
    karate(Any style)
    Jiu Jitsu(Japanese)
    Capoeira
    Panjak Silat

Probably a buncn more I am blanking on.

If McGregor even manages to win a round off of him it will be a small victory for him. If he even manages to crack him clean with a few hard shots he'll have done well. Anything other than a KO or stoppage win for Floyd will be embarrassing.

His confidence in McGregor would be understandable if they were fighting under MMM rules or McGregor was fighting a fellow MMA guy. However, McGregor is attempting to do something that is just way too big an ask. I wouldn't bet a single penny on him winning. It's crazy to think someone who is 0-0-0 in the sport of boxing could pull something like this off. I'll give him plenty of props if he proves me wrong but I really can't see it.

That £100 is as good as in your hand, IMO.

I don't think it's a case of him having to make himself have to believe it, as I said, I think he genuinely does believe he's going to win. He signed it thinking about both IMO.

If that's the case I believe it's out of misunderstanding more than bravery.

Floyd wont fight in the Octagon because it reminds him of prison.

In terms of self defence, Lyoto Machida was very high level karate and I'm sure Hsi fighting skills are beyond any boxers.

In terms of Jiu Jitsu Shinya Aoki might be the best ever in MMA and if you didn't knock him out he tended to submit you. Hows a boxer gonna compete once he clinches and sets up the trip?

Machida was not exclusively karate and Aoki was not exclusively Japanese JJ. They trained hybridized styles along with other forms of self defense.

I think that's just the way he is: He has supreme confidence in himself. That's how he rolls in MMA too.

Very few MMA fighters train only one discipline and no one at the top level certainly.

But their main styles were Karate and Jiu Jitsu respectively.

I've heard that before, and it may be true, but what did Chuck Lidell do to win so many MMA fights? box (sloppily) and slip out of takedowns, that's about it.

I watched Woodley slip out of Damian Maia's takedowns a few weeks ago, about 17 of them, so easily, it was like he had a 6 year old trying to tackle him. I'm sure slipping your leg out of an opponent's arms is tougher than it looks, but is it something a fairly young, athletic boxer can't learn in 6 months?

It's like when Toney trained to fight Coture, every week we got a different update on what he was learning, Toney's learning to kick...Toney's learning to sprawl...Toney's learning to use his knees and elbows...WTF, teach him to avoid takedowns and that's it, let him use his knuckles which is what he already knows.
