I'm not excited at all but I must admit I am curious. I'll be tuning in one way or another and will be also following it in the RBR in here. I'm expecting Benn to come out as reckless as you like, with all guns a-blazing as it's obvious he's HUGELY fired up for this for sure. Where as Jr outwardly appears not to be. Who knows, it may turn into a barn Stormer on the night.
Kind of even though I don't like either of them. But that's just because I love boxing. But all this talk about ''legacy'' is cringey as hell and it's hard to watch. Benn has obviously been performing well in sparring against quality MWs and heavier otherwise they wouldn't be taking this fight. I suspect he's chinned a few of them. CEJ is bigger but he's always said he doesn't rehydrate much after weigh ins “When I fight at 160, the maximum I put on is five pounds'' Benn allegedly weighed 170lbs in the ring against Algieri according to E-Hearn and he said he'll weigh about 164lbs against CEJ so if both are telling the truth they'll weigh roughly about the same. Benn is very fast, powerful and puts his shots together very smoothly and I envisage him having a lot of success and his combinations could prove troublesome for CEJ. But CEJ has the bigger frame, has fought much better opposition, world champions and world class 168 and 160 pounders, and much bigger punchers than Benn has and his chin is proven as far up as 168 against big punchers like Groves. Conversely, Benn has been kept away from anyone who can wobble a toddler so we have no idea how his chin will hold up at this weight. CEJ isn't a particularly concussive puncher but he hits a lot harder than anyone Benn has fought. He dropped Liam Williams multiple times with jabs but I'm fairly certain that had a lot to do with Williams crashing the weight because his chin has always seemed solid. He took an absolute pounding against Boo Boo and stood up to repeated flush power shots in quick succession so it was very strange to see him go down so easily from innocuous looking jabs. None of the shots that put him over looked or sounded concussive. But the KO% of Benn's opponents are embarrassing and if CEJ reverts back to his old style instead of Roy's ghastly influence trying to get him to fight like a very poor version of him, albeit obviously sporting a far more impressive beard than the pathetic old lady mandible the boxing gods cursed him with, it will stand him in much better stead.
Yeah I think it should be interesting. I don't particularly like either of them I think it's a decent match up. I think if Jr isn't too drained he should win comfortably but it's boxing so you never know.
Me too as regards liking either of them. Both are no where near as appealing as their dads, as fighters or characters. As to the winner, Exo?. I'm not 100% sure mate TBH. Jr is past his best ( whenever that was!) and doesn't really seem to have real ambition imo. Where as Benn is still improving and has ambition by the bucket load. Sod it, I'll stick my neck out and say Benn wins. Just for fun I'll have a virtual pint bet with you.
I would **** myself if Benn won. Eubank has wasted his career. Yeah he's always come in good shape but his insistence and not having a trainer most of his career meant he never really developed as a fighter. His best wins were against shot fighters like Abraham and DeGale. Benn has improved and is the younger man I'm just not sure he can crack Eubanks chin. Like you say though it won't be a patch on their fathers fights.
No the ridiculous weight cut/ rehydration clause that eubank is having to do is borderline criminal: the bbboc should have a duty of care to protect fighters from being put in these ridiculous scenario’s. Of course eubank could turn it down but the sanctioning body’s should know better, eubank will never turn the money down. If Eubank suffers a bad brain injury this weekend the whole of boxing gets dragged through the mud. I won’t be watching
A virtual pint it is then mate. With that I can maybe get some excitement with the fight!, Win or lose. But yeah, I agree with eubank Jr's career never really catching fire like it could have possibly done. He always wanted the glory it seems but without the real commitment that's needed. Commitment that Eubank Sr did have. Difference being was that Sr wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth unlike Jr. Benn Jr with his limitations does seem to want to give his all so far in his career. He comes across as less pretentious. Let the best fighter on the night win then. Mine's a Light & Bitter btw.
