Due to the news that Cotto and Margo have now agreed to a catch weight i thought it would be a good to do a poll.

My theory now is, that weight classes lost all credibility years ago. 5 champions in each class, and aload of super and silver champs.

So why should boxers stick to the weight classes if the weight division itself is a joke.

I think as long as the weight divisions are a mess, to allow the best possible fights to be made. Let fighters negotiate ant catch weight they want then once the fight is made. End of Discussion on the Matter.

for a dream fight of 2 different weight classes then sure why not?

but for titles i think it should not be allowed

Catchweight fighters (of the irrelevant PPV League of boxing) can fine tune the weight limit per fight to hurt their opponent. Catchweight fights for titles should not be sanctioned.

I don't think it matters much but since there is already 17 weight classes and as you say 5 champions then it would be better to fight at the weight division limit. But it different if the catch weight is used for fighters from different weight classes to fight then its not so bad

I agree, however titles don't mean anything either these days. Povetkin and Chaguev are fighting for the WBA strap. And Wlad was elevated to Super champso this could happen.

    Surely those boxers are embarrassed.

So i guess my point is. If i was a pro boxer, and had to fight in this mess, i wouldnt have a problem with catchweights because the integrity of the weightclasses and who the champions are has gone down the drain.

A fighter would only sign a contract if they thought they could make the weight.

As long as no championship is on the line. I have no problem with them.

catchweights are there to help guys win titles instead of making them win it the real way. If you cannot weigh in for a fight at the weight the title is for, then how can it be for that title.

There's very little weight difference between divisions these days and an unlimited pile of belts available in each one. So the only time catchweights make any sense is when guys from different divisions are matched up in super fights and there's no title at stake. But how often is that?

If its not for a title then yes. A guy like Carl Froch can make 164 or probably lower since he is rather light for his division. Bernard Hopkins has done it time after time again.

there have been catchweights in boxing for a long time how can it disrespect the history of the sport, I have no problem with fighters that agree to catchweights and fight for the title. I don't really give a **** as long as the fight is over the weight limit of the next lowest weight class I could give two shits. The only problem I have is when someone blatantly fails to make weight that is disrespectful. If you can't make the weight don't make the fight, its that simple. I have no problem at all hell even the fighters don't blame catchweights when they lose.

    Against

We've got enough weight divisions as it is, and too many belts and too many world champions

Plus Manny does it to give him the advantage because he is a cheating little *****

    Yeah, I said it
