i'd not expect a 38 year old man to be try mixing it with youngsters in any sport, much les one of the most demanding ones.
Froch DID still have PLENTY to prove. GGG, Degale, Ward rematch, and Chavez were all still possible if he didn't sit on his **** for a year. Listen, he fought everyone ever asked of him. Nobody should question his status as a badass - but the legacy isn't there. He beat some solid fighters in the super six tourney (and lost two fights not all that closely) + Bute....but nobody truly top notch. Calzaghe beat prime kessler (who beat froch fair and square) and that B. Hop win looks great in retrospect. Froch would have done his legacy a solid by taking down Degale in a yet another domestic super fight, fighting GGG who is a small MW, fighting in Vegas for once in his career against a faded chavez, and at least attempting (win lose or draw) a rematch against Ward. He left some good fights on the table...he was a young 38. He has a young family and a wife who probably burns through cash - Sadly, i have no doubt a 40yr old froch with a 3yr layoff will be back looking for those fights.
To go out on these Groves fights was a bit of a letdown. Ive always said the Groves fights are NOTHING special for his legacy. Now he retires on top of them, quite disappointing.
He was honest about Ward saying he'd probably lose again, so short of a GGG send off I think he's done it all. I actually think GGG might of stopped him which would be a ****ty way to go out.
That's EXACTLY what Calzaghe said Not accusing either man of anything, just interesting to hear Froch say the same thing he blasted Calzaghe for saying all these years now
