Are you in favor of UFC/WEC merger?

I wasnt before but now I am because Versus has been took of Directv and im missing it already. Merge together and I can see them agian.

 

Not really, the complaint about boxing is the splitting of classes; a six pound difference between super-welter and middleweight is absurd for one.

Add up through middleweight to WEC and scrap UFC, how about that? :deal

 

I personally can't say, but there is obviously a reason why they've been the last on the weight class priority list, it was the same in Pride and other organizations. To the casual fan they probably are less exciting because they are smaller than the average person, so theres less intrigue. Bottom line though, there are only so many fighters the UFC can showcase because of limited air time. Each fighter needs multiple showings inorder to build a fan base and to make them tune in as they move up the ranks. An overload of fighters is just hard for the fans to keep track of.

170, 185, 205 and HW. Then they brought 155 back. Add 125, 135 and 145 and that increases it to 8. The introduction of 125 to 155 would see 4 close weight classes which begins to bring about issues. The more weight classes, the more the mainstream fan struggles to keep up to date, the more they get disinterested with it.

155 to heavyweight is easy for all the current fans I know of. Add another three along more orgs getting bigger and boxing like problems will begin to manifest.

 

Just because you merge the two organizations, doesn't mean you're stuck with the current weight classes.

I'd probably get ride of the 125lb class and maybe have a 140lb class instead of 135 and 145. So that's a 15lb spread between 140, 155 and another 15lb spread between 155 and 170, and another 15lb spread between 170 and 185.

Depending who's watching the sport, ie mexican's who tend to be smaller, maybe a 125lb category might work, depending on the quality of the fighters and the audience demand for this.

But different orgs have had different definitions of the existing weight classes from the beginning. MMA has a long way to go toward standardization. UFC wisely foregoing a trademark on the octagonal cage was probably the most significant step to date, but there's a long climb to go.

 

Bad as I hate Dana......as a MMA fan, I want to see the best fights possible.

I don't know. I like the WEC - but it's really just the lower divisions of the UFC. May as well leave it as is.

 

This is true but I'm talking mainstream problems and UFC is the face of MMA. The hardcore fans just learn everything, ***** about it but still love the game. Just like hardcore fans in boxing. The mainstream fans are a different issue though.
