I do know that those referees were trying to save the boxers, but in many fights they stopped the fight too early. Some referees did not even make a count. They were just waving their hands to stop the fight from the first KD. That's BS!

IMO, as long as the boxer can get up from the KD and he does not show the sign of stumble or crumble or no leg then he should be allowed to continue.
For instance, Joe Frazier got knocked down 6 times by Foreman before the ref. stopped the fight. That was O.K since Joe had no chance to survive the K.O. or the case of Judha who made a chicken dance in the ring after getting up from the KD in round 2 against Tszyu. I agreed with the ref. Jedenady to stop the fight.

I just don't like the kind of referee who did the same thing as Richard Steel did. We should give the chance to boxers who come to fight. So what you think?

I agree with you. I want a conclusive fight. These referees if they are swimmers are the ones jump to the pool before the gun shot.

Boxing fans who bought the expensive tickets wanted to watch the fun fight but it was the referee who spoiled everything by stopping the fight too early.

Agree unless the fight is extremely one sided and the fighter is being badly beaten and the fighters corner are negligent the corner should be the one to stop the fight.

New York Athletic Commission sued for like 30 million dollars because they let a beating continue. Now I know that case was in a fight that nobody suspected the internal damage that was occurring. However, it's a legitimate point that is all they would need to point to to defend themselves from critics. Most stoppages are ultimately fine. Often times people complain about an early stoppage when the fight was a sweep on the scorecards up until that point. I'm not naive to early stoppages being convenient and in favor of the chief promoters' fighter and A-side. But it's a case by case basis to speculate there.

Depends of the situation. For a championship fight, the fight should go on as far as possible since it is possibly the wishes of the fighters, before and after the fight. It is the end goal of their career(-life), a big payday for them, so eventhough there is trouble, if the fighter seems to want to fight back, let it go on. If it is two top 30 guys which nobody watches, who fight for 15,000$ or less, there is no reason to let the fight continue. Why let brain damage continue while there isn't as much at stake?

They should have stopped the AJ/Wlad fight in the 6th! It's clear that AJ was gone at that point; there's no way he could come back and he was going to get the beating of a lifetime ... oh, wait.

I'm tired of refs that stop the fight early depending on who is fighting.

Don’t wanna see another Nick Blackwell but that was just such a one sided head trauma beating, the Takam stoppage bugged me as it wasn’t head trauma but a cut which whilst looking awful it’s just not the same kind of damage and in this case Takam didn’t seen perturbed by it like some would.

I don't care about each case, because sometimes it is about saving one of the fighters from further punishment.
But like we all know, the term "British stoppage" in many cases means that the visiting fighter gets stopped as soon as he gets buzzed by a couple of shots or even worse, is at the end of a shoeshine moment. No matter how the fight went, and even when the homie is at the losing end.
Many of the great comebacks and come from behind victories came in the "championship rounds", as the challenger/underdog/underlying party rallied hard for one last time, usually while having taken some time off in one of the previous rounds.

Like the "bad days at the office" judges seem to have end up 90 to 95% in favor of the home/feautured fighter, these "mercy stoppages" have about the same percentage numbers, which makes it just as fishy.

rather too early than too late.

too late rules out a rematch.

HOWEVER - refs should not be stopping fights when 2 punches hit the arms, or on a slip (clearly corrupt, say, when the other guy is looking for a way out after getting floored), or carrying the home fighter back to their corner, refs who do this should be banned.

As far as the Takam one goes, no idea why he stopped the contest. Joshua only has his stoppage record intact thanks to a referee.

It doesn't bother me too much if a fight is stopped a bit early sometimes. I think it is better to err in the side of caution.

Takam would have been stopped before the final bell so it's not a big deal.
