My mate - sports writer in the Scottish press - woke me up this morning with a message saying "what a shame, the wee scumbag got beat". He says other than the people who get sent to cover boxing occasionally and act as sycophants over the travelling Scottish champion, Taylor is universally disliked and the journos were waiting for him to get taken down a peg...

Assume this is more about out-of-ring behaviour than anything else.

I mean it'd sell but without a good TV deal the Hydro won't generate world-level retirement money.

Taylor might have banked a few bob and seems pretty modest with a fairly normal house and all that, but he's certainly not stinking rich given one low-end PPV show which probably had to overpay Chisora to sell - and limited major TV platform exposure.

Was it unnecessary? He seems to have fought better under Mcguigans coaching than subsequent trainers. Maybe he needed more activity to reach his best level?

Having said that we could look at different factors all day but the most obvious answer is father time, he's 32, Te'o is 25, it could simply be the Taylor's time in boxing is over.

His family was getting threatened online, people saying they were gonna kill his missus and posting her work address online. Fair play any man who can stay calm through that

Josh lost the fight between R7 - R12.

He looked sluggish and tired. Didn't carry any snap in his punches.

Fair play to Lopez who performed better than I expected

Good words by both post fight.

Ex McGuigan boxers have said they spar about 60% less than when they were with them. Sparring is great for learning, but you are still taking punishment and putting miles on the clock.

Does it work though? Maybe it's a trade-off, a shorter career that reaches a greater height versus a longer career at a lower level? I don't know, but Shane does seem to get good performances out of his fighters

I agree, he is and they know their matchmaking.

Frampton said he felt all the sparring shortened his career.

That’s bang out of order even though Taylor threatens and abuses people in person. Pleaded guilty not long ago that’s just a time he got caught.

Wasn't expecting that after Lopez's lacklustre performance against the Spanish featherfister Sandor Martin. Taylor should probably move up to 147. I don't like to say a fighter is done after a loss but I think Taylor might be done at the top top level.

The UK now down to 5 male world champions.

Had money on Lopez last night just wasn’t convinced Taylor would still have the will to go over there and pull it off.well done to Lopez though took a ballzy move and gets his career back on track.

Strange opinion from your mate as pretty much every boxer has acted a right nob at some point and the press still swoon over them, along with the drug cheats and wife beaters among the fight community. Taylor has acted the thug on a night out, everyone on this forum has done that at some point especially in your younger days.

Mike Tyson is still a legitimate Hollywood A lister and the guys a convicted ******. Carlos Monzon threw his wife off a balcony and killed her, Tommy Morrisson tried to hide the fact he had HIV. Go to the classic forum those guys are adored!!

In this case it's more about direct dealings with Taylor than reporting gossip from nights out. The Scottish press had a real love-hate relationship with Scott Harrison for similar reasons; they'd report on his sporting comebacks but couldn't ignore his personality.

You won't find anything much bad about Taylor in the Scottish press which shows you they know where their bread is buttered; it doesn't mean they have to like their subjects.
