No drug mixed in water and drank would have that type of effect that quickly. Sorry to the "magic bottle" conspiracy theorist. It takes a lot longer to feel the effects from drinking a drug , than to inhale it. It has to get into the blood stream first. That's why asthma steroids are inhaled for quick results. By the time the asthma steroid pills mixed in water and drank had any effect , the fight would've been over... Same results if Cocaine was mixed in water and drank. I love Arguello, he was one of my favorite fighters to watch, their are very few fights of his I Haven't seen. Same with Pryor. There was only 3rds of that fight Pryor threw less than a 100 punches, and they were during the middle of the fight when he boxed a little more after tasting some serious fire power from Arguello, His punch out put increased after the 10th rd, well before the "magic bottle" was asked for by Lewis. Could Pryor have uses Cocaine prior to the fight? Possibly, but both men were given drug test, both men passed. Look, Pryor was simply the better jr.welter, not higher in anyway over Arguello on a ATG list, but a better jr.welter that simple. Pryor had a style that kept Arguello on most occasions from getting max leverage on his punches. Plus Pryors punch output was basically where it usually was during all his fights. He was a human buzzsaw. Like the Great H.Armstrong. He landed over 90 punches by himself the 1st two rds. (Compare that to Mayweather vs Pacquiao landing around 30 punched in the 1st two rds when they fought,,,, COMBINED) on Arguello, through over 200 punches. So many on this site want to believe there was something wrong, because of What Panama Lewis said, and what Panama Lewis went on to do. But what if their wasn't? What if it was as they said it was? Of all the people in and around Pryors corner that night, not one has said anything different after all these years? Not one has said anything about even a rumour. Get over it. It's completely impossible to prove or not prove at this point. Let's look back at this fight with pride and excitement as one of the greatest fights in boxing history.
To me it's not even about whether or not that bottle had anything in it or not. Arguello was getting outlanded 4 to 1 before Panama Lewis opened his mouth in the corner. Arguello was losing anyway.
Anyway, Flaco was phenomenal. A cool composed boxer who also happened to be an all-universe flame thrower at the same time.
You're completely in the wrong to ignore the illegal shenanigans of Panama Lewis! First off I'm an asthmatic and so is my mom. I had it worst when I was growing up, but have it contolled as an adult to where I don't need medication. My mother however has been on asthma medication all her life. I've personally taken steroids for asthma and know how they work. When out of breath and weasing, even a pill in small miligrams I'd feel a huge difference in the ability to bring air to my lungs. I'd say I could feel the difference when taking just one pill in anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. So then it couldn't possibly work for Aaron Pryor you will say...……. Obviously Panama couldn't just give Pryor an inhaler in plain sight...….. This is the thing that people don't understand or just plain chose to ignore. It wasn't just after the 13th round that Aaron Pryor drank from that bottle. HBO cameras caught Panama giving Pryor from that bottle as early as the 2nd round, and they caught it again in a dfferent round before the one the boxing community knows about in the 13th round. Those are just the ones the HBO cameras caught, I'm sure there were likely other rounds where Panama was making Pryor drink from that bottle. Now open up your mind to some real reality my friend. If Panama was giving Pryor oral steroids designed for asthmatics during the fight, you dont think he was'nt on those same oral steroids hours or even days before the fight????????????? ........and I would think that as dumb an idiot as Panama appears to be, he would'nt care or think twice to crush numerous pills well beyond the limit a doctor would give an asthmatic patient to make certain his fighter is breathing well beyond his regular capacity. The drinking from that bottle during the fight was to keep a certain level of it fresh in his blood stream. So yeah, an oral steroid does'nt work instantly, but it works much faster than you might think and I personally have experienced it. What Luis Resto said in that documentary is no lie!
A legendary fighter whose boxing prime and life both ended in ways that have led to much speculation.
Absolutely! A lot of people don't know this, but Alexis Arguello's son AJ doesn't believe his dad took his own life. AJ was in the United States when it got to him of his fathers death. So he traveled to Nicaragua and wanted to hire an independent coroner to conduct an autopsy on Arguello's body. The Nicaraguan government blocked such action, the wouldn't allow it. From that time forward while AJ was in Nicaragua, AJ tells of this story in an interview with a Spanish news station in the US called Univision, from that time he was in Nicaragua going through Arguello's funeral until the time AJ left Nicaragua, government officials washed him like a hawk. AJ was under government surveillance throughout his whole stay in Nicaragua.
Never said what Resto said was a lie, but that relates to him. Not to Aaron Pryor, because he never mentioned Pryor. And you defeated your own rant by saying it takes 15- 30 minutes it takes for the steroids to work, yet the fight was in the 14thrd. So, what 7 minutes left in the fight? Now I see you're beginning to add well the drink was given to Pryor though out the fight. But WHAT drink was given to Pryor? Look, believe what you choose. I just ruined your magic bottle theory, but now your adding other instances throughout the fight.( That you never mentioned before.) on this subject, Now the theory of yours is Lewis was giving it to him DAYS in advance. But both men were drug tested, both came back negative. I had asthma when I was a kid, lived on Primitine Mist and tablets. I know for a fact the the relief from the Mist was MUCH faster than the tablets, which could take 20-30 minutes. So your not telling me anything I don't know about. As I said before with all the corner men, hype men, and just hanger on people in and around Pryors corner and in his locker room. Not one has said anything about the situation? To this day? Not one has even mentioned they heard a rumour? Damn near 40yrs later? Please. Like I said believe what you choose, it's your opinion, but my opinion is your wrong.
You ruined my Magic bottle facts? LOL! Absolutely not!!! I've been posting in this forum since it first was established. All through those years I posted that the HBO cameras had caught Panama giving pryor from that bottle as earliest as the 2nd round. If you saw that video of Luis Resto explaining it, Panama would give him from crushed asthma pills (and Resto might not know exactly what they were but knows it helped him with his breathing.") You saw Resto describe it, it would just open his lungs right up so he could breathe. Resto would have to be questioned further on how exactly those crushed pills would work, but we do know they were illegal to use during a fight. ……...but no, I'm not making stuff up as I go along, I think anyone that's been here for some years that's read some of my postings will tell you I don't play that game. They might no agree with me on a lot of issues, but my record stands in this forum of debating knowledgeably and not hitting this board with lies and innuendos that a lot of people in here like to do. Now read this quote...………………………….. This content is protected
