Anyone see the ESPN FNF show last night on BT Sport?.

Mendez dropped in round 2 (late), gets to feet and then walks towards Rances with guard up and Barthelemy throws a combination but the bell goes while he's unloading and drops Mendez and the ref counts Mendez out and Barthelemy becomes a world champion.

Bad refereeing. Feel we need to go mental about this on twitter with loads of hashtags and call Barthelemy a coward until he faces Mendez again. Loads of threads about this as well..

To be honest the guy was throwing the combination as the bell went and the ref rightly counted him out, i personally see nothing wrong with it, Mendez never recovered from the first knock down check his legs the immobile when he gets up.
It seemed even in the first round when Mendez got hit once with a right hand once with a solid jab there was a reaction in his legs, maybe the guys weight drained coz hes better than that by all accounts

TBF Billy the bell rings twice IMO and the KO comes after the second bell which is a second after the first ring. The ref should of been in to call a halt to the action but sadly he wasn't but after all the who ha recently it's interesting to see the reaction and lack of about this incident.

I agree he never recovered and seemed to be hurt numerous times which could be weight draining.

I agree, I have seen people critisize Barthelemy for hitting after the bell but in the biggest fight of his life I doubt he even heard the bell, he was in his zone. The ref should be the one being held to account for me.

Totally agree Rances was in the zone and trying to seize the moment of opportunity. The ref just didn't react or really should of been aware they was inside the last 10 seconds due to the 10 second countdown and also the fact Mendez was in a bad way anyways he should be in a better position to halt action IMO.

Ithink there is no way the guy can stop his punches and the ref did very little wrong

We aren't blaming Rances for his punches Billy. But the punch that put Mendez to the floor was a second after the bell.

It's like with Steve Smoger recently his stoppage of the Tapia vs Kirkland fight was nonchalant and late resulting in Tapia taking two more punches (hard) that he didn't need to. Just think the positioning of these referee's as tough as it is needs to be better..

It so appears that there will be a rematch. Hitting after the bell is clearly against the rules and it should be.............

I'd say grove's punch against froch at the end of round one was worse, again both were unavoidable

Bart clearly was the better man in there (sorry for stating the obvious), but rules are rules. The KO blow landed after the bell, and simply put if this had happened to any big star the verdict would've already been turned into a NC.

So why wasn't Grove deducted a point for his punch after the bell, in all fairness there wasn't a thing the ref could do about it, unfortunately it's one of those things not nice though, although Mendez seemed tobe getting hurt every time the guy landed

    :?

Groves' single punch worse than Barthelemy's 6 - punch combo? (of which maybe the first shot can be argued 'on time' being that it occurred during the bell while the 4-5 shots in the follow-up barrage were clearly audibly tardy?

Or did you mean worse as in more of a damaging crack, rather than more obviously late?

If it wasn't brought to your attention prior to watching it you wouldn't think given the bell seemed to sound twice there wasn't much in it
