    Folks,

In a dream fight pitting Alexis Arguello as WBC 135 lb. champion of 1982 squaring off against a 1982 Salvidor Sanchez who has trained to rise in weight to roughly 133 pounds, how would a title fight have gone if the two all-time greats had fought say in May of 1982??? Arguello is age 29 and Sanchez is a mere age 23...

15 rds at MSG in a 20 X 20 ring with 8 oz. Everlast gloves. Three knockdown rule is in effect.. No saving by the bell, except for the final round...

Who do you like if 29 year old Alexis Arguello weighs the full 135 pounds, while 23 year old Sal Sanchez comes in a wee light at 133 pounds?

    Who wins and how?:huh

Damn, 63 hits but not a comment at all. I thought an '82 dream fight between Arguello and Sanchez would sizzle, not fizzle...

Sanchez would win by controlling the movement and being the faster boxer

    I could buy this notion.

Arguello would have the edge in strength and power at 135 for sure over Sanchez, but you can't hurt what you can't hit clean or often...

I think Salvador loses a decision to Alexis.I think Sanchez will play right into Alexis' hands and Arguello scores a late round knockdown, sealing the deal.

I think Arguello's reach and body shots would begin to tell as the match proceeded. Sal's faster, but this isn't Danny Lopez he's in with.

Pundits at the time seemed virtually unanimous in their opinions of two proposed bouts: That Arguello would be a bad idea for Sanchez, and that SRL would likewise be a bad idea for Alexis.

I think alexis kould bring out the best in him. If sal kan avoid the big shot I think he ha$ the speed to keep alexis off. Sal ud

I know Sal Sanchez never fought at 135, and his July '82 defense and 15th rd. TKO win over Nelson was a great fight at 126, but I do think since Sanchez had fought before at 129 and 130 pounds earlier, he could've fought and still be fit and in-shape at 133 pounds in the summer of 1982....

Alexis Arguello KO'd Kevin Rooney in July 1982 at 140 pounds, but A.A. still could've made 135 with ease for a mega-fight with Sal Sanchez....
