About what I thought, I initially thought rd 9, Arguello would get tagged for sure, but I dont think Manny would be able to hang with Alexis for too long, and his accuracy was supreme, and his power was pretty damn good too
The comparison between Pryor and Pacquiao is nonsense, Pacquiao started as strawweight-light flyweight and Arguello, by the time he faced The Hawk, was shot. A prime 126lbs. Arguello beats a prime 126lbs Pacquiao by UD, it wouldn't be a shutout, though.
Arguello is far too skilled for pac in my opinion, and his height would give him trouble. Wide UD for Alexis.
Pacquaio is a good fighter & may even go on to a better boxer than he currently is, but in my view, he doesn't compare to Arguello yet. For me, Aruguello was a rare breed indeed. He could box, punch, fight on the inside or outside, keep it at long range, etc. It's amazing to think Arguello started out as a featherweight. I mean, he wasn't exactly small for a LW fighter. Pacquiao is too reckless & doesn't sharpen up his defense enough when facing Arguello. Alexis would counter Pacquiao a great deal. Arguello by TKO between rounds 7-9.
Arguello was massive at featherweight and super featherweight. And to go beyond that, he knew how to use his height and reach. Pacquiao would be kept at a distance, forced to fight backing up, and unable to get into his in and out rhythm. Arguello would take steps back, allow Pacquiao to come to him, and time him on the way in with big shots. He'd even time him on the way out as Pacquiao wouldn't fully be out of Arguello's range. I see Arguello taking control in about the 3rd round, breaking Pacquiao down for a 7th or 8th round stoppage.
i'm a big fan of both guys, but i'm being objective. watch morales-pac 1, and see how a stiff long jab offsets pac and controls him at ring center. arguello= quintissential boxer-puncher with one hell of a stiff long jab. arguello would keep this on the outside. pac does'nt fair well fighting off the backfoot, and you better believe arguello would impose his size, strength and 1 punch ko power from the opening round. jmm landed well timed right hands flush in between pac's lunges and feints. arguello would be landing his with regularity, and that long right hand was backed by one of the (if not the) most concussive power in the history of the lower weights. arguello was also a good body puncher and would be mixing in digging left hooks to the body in conjuntion with his 1-2. pac would be backed up, walked down and cut off to the sides of the ring where he's ineffective. arguello would get marked up a little bit by pac, who would have his moments when he manages to get in no doubt (make no mistake, pac is'nt an easy fight for anyone). but arguello's size, length and boxing skill would be the story of this fight.
