arguello was a beast at 130, and floyd during his tenure there was the complete package as well. now arguello is one of my top 10 all time fav's. but i think floyd just has to much of a style's advantage on him, with his better boxing skills, faster hands/feet and over all quickness over alexis. i dont think this will be a replay of floyd-coralles, but i think floyd takes this via a close UD in a 12 rounder. in a 15 rounder imo its 50/50 between a close floyd UD or a arguello KO in the late rounds, as he would have done enough work over 15 rds to break floyd down. what do you guys think?
Oh, you've got to be kidding. Arguello loses the first 3 or 4 rounds, starts to find a home for the right in the fifth, and gets Mayweather out of there by the tenth. Floyd complains afterwards that he hurt his hands.
Alexis is one of my all time favorites, but I think Floyd wins a decision, unless that famous Arguello right finds its mark
Arguello was a 15 round fighter, and we didn't call those last three rounds "the championship rounds" for nothing. Arguello, behind on all score cards, comes very close to decapitaing the "pretty boy" late in round 13 or 14, and knocks him out in 15. I mean think about: when did Floyd ever encounter a guy who was almost impossible to frustrate, always came prepared to go 15 rounds, did irreparable damage with uppercuts to the chest, and had a lazer guided jab and a text book perfect straight right? Boo
PBF is a 15 round fighter and would have been even better in that era. PBF at 130 would be too much and his chin there was iron as well. He could take Arguello's shots and fire back with his own. PBF by UD:deal
PBF has never EVEN been in a 15 rounder. To call him a 15 round fighter is ridiculous. Moreover, I have no idea how many times you have seen Alexis fight, but I assure you, he had all the tools to give PBF the longest night of his life, he would also ugly him up bad. Boo
People tend to forget how really good Arquello was. He had it all, skill, toughness, heart, calmness and POWER. He was a ring weary fighter when he fought Pryor. He was the older and smaller man. At under 130 (light featherweight) Alexis was a monster. He would calmly whittle a fighter down until their legs would not hold them up any longer. Against the Pound 4 Pound fighter in Floyd Mayweather. Alexis would still be the favorite at 130. Floyd would not be able to hurt Arguello with one punch but Alexis sure the hell could hurt Floyd.
Fighters like Hopkins and PBF would have been great in the 15 round era they stay in shape year round and have excellent stamina. PBF is a defensive genius his speed, footwork and ring genralship would give Arguello fits. I'm sorry I just don't see Arguello beating PBF at 130. PBF is superior to him in almost every department at that weight.
Check out a tape of the Alexis Arquello - Alfredo Escalera title fights (both bloodbaths), then imagine PBF in there instead of Escalera. Arquello's laser long right hand will reach PBF and bust him up. How PBF responds to the sight of his own blood is the key I think. Either Arquello by late TKO, or PBF by split decision.
