Then why go with the prediction Floyd by wide decision (or by 8 rounds to 4)?

I think he was getting clearly outboxed and got frustrated, that's why he started tossing Floyd around. i have to disagree with you, I don't think this was competitive at all.

Hernandez was undefeated in the 130 pound divsion at the time his only loss was to oscar @ 135.

also Floyd was very green himself, and not yet his best. Notice how floyd used only movement in that fight. He was not yet totally comfortable with the shoulder roll, he would never stay in pocket with it. He would tuck his chin when he got cornered and then get out of dodge.

I really think at least some of the Floyd supporters need to study some old tape of Alexis. There is no question about Floyd's skill. He is one of the best pure boxers of all time, and would probably win a 12 round decision, but he would get busted up doing it. In a 15 round fight I'd bet the house payment on Arguello. At 130 Arguello is the benchmark not PBF. At 135 Duran is the benchmark not Floyd. At 147 Lenaord, hearns, and Robinson not Floyd. One huge difference between PBF and the other fighters I mentioned is that they set out to fight the absolute best while Floyd, with todays alphabet soup of available "champions" has tended to avoid the best, or wait until they were clealry fading. Witness his current choice of Hatton rather than Cotto.

Whatever you believe is the benchmark or not styles makes fights.
At 130, Mayweather is one of the greatest fighters ever at that weight as well and deserves his due. While he was there he beat 5 world champions(G. Hernandez, Chavez, Corrales, Goyo Vargas and C. Hernandez) Arguello always had trouble with faster mobile fighters and Mayweather dominates taller fighters. Yes, Arguello is an all time great but he lost even in his prime. Arguello was a great boxer puncher but the hand speed and foot speed advantage Mayweather would have at 130 would be too much to overcome. Also at this weight Mayweather was more a sharp shooter and had alot more pop. He'd earn Arguello's respect and win a UD. Arguello didnt have the greatest chin, though solid and I could see both getting rattled but Mayweathe will land the cleaner shots. He'd stick and move and stop and band when he needed to. Competitive fight but a win nonetheless for Mayweather

gatti was'nt 1/16 the fighter arguello was. if castillo was backing him up against the ropes i dont see why el flaco could'nt do the same. he would have been too good to not have gotten enough work done on floyd over 15 rds for a late KO.

people are underrating Hernandez. He was like 37-2 when he retired, only lost to ATG, and Mayweather was only 21. As you said he was green then and mainly depended on his foot speed and reflexes to defend. He had alot of natural talent but by the end of his reign at 130 he was the complete package.
