Arguello loved fighting pressure fighters and to set them up for his stiff right hand and tremendous combinations. Homicide Hank is perhaps the ultimate pressure fighter. He coul go for 15 rounds no worries, and often gave up huge amounts of weight fighting smaller guys. He also had an iron jaw and resilient heart to carry on wading through punches until he got his man. So it's Hank in preperation for the transition to FW to LW (before he knows he'll have to fight for the Welterweight title first ) and Arguello in all his pomp at super-featherweight. Who takes this one?
what a fight man i actually cant split it but i will say Arguello SD as he would have enough power to stop Henry overwhelming him and the skills and reach to stay away but it is a toss up
Armstrong had a similar swarming style to the Hawk - Aryon Pryor. Would Armstrong be able to injest the 'special' concoction? Minus Panama Lewis in his corner (sic) I like the explosive thin man AA by kayo in 11 in a sensational fight for the ages.
I think Arguello could be considered one of the worse matchups for Hank due to his power and pin-point accuracy, though he'd undoubtedly have his own difficulties with Hank's strength and relentless barrage of punches. Both have obstacles to overcome, but I think Arguello's body punching (particularly that right uppercut to the mid-section) might be the deciding factor if he can effectively use his length to stave off Armstrong's attack when needed. A stoppage in Arguello's favor wouldn't terribly surprise me, even if I could also see Armstrong being too rough and tumble for him. I'll go out on that limb though, Arguello by late stoppage, TKO.
This would be a brilliant fight, armstrong is the style of fighter that arguello would like to fight, he certainly wouldn't have to go looking for him, gut judgement is that armstrong would be all over arguello and though certainly eating a lot of flush counters would do enough to take a UD
I went for Arguello points, I see Armstrong eating some great combinations but Arguello also being hurt and possibly decked. I can imagine Alexis going back to the jab and the precise combinations, picking Armstrong off towards the end but not stopping him (Armstrong as we know was super-tough, although Arguello is probably one of th greatest punchers of all time so I can see why some have picked an Arguellos stoppage) in a life and death battle doing just enough to eek out a decision.
Bad match-up for armstrong. Arguello take advantage of his wide open style with damaging straight, pinpoint punches. Armstrong was made to order for arguello and the momentum with which he fought would only propell him into "el explosivos" bombs producing double impact. Brave effort by armstrong, having his moments of success but only sparingly. As the fight went on the effect of arguellos punches would become more and more pronounced, with armstrongs eyes nearly swollen shut, bleeding from the nose and his lips busted. Arguello by tko in 12.
I've often thought about this fight. Fighters have managed to match Arguello on the inside, like Olivares and Escalera, but only for stretches and ultimately weren't able to keep it up for the entire fight. Arguello has some weaknesses on the inside, but he makes it very difficult and very draining to stay on top of him the whole time, and it only takes one clean shot from him to end it. However, if there is one fighter in history that could've withstood Arguello's best shots and managed to stay on top of him for an entire fight, it would be Armstrong. Could go either way.
Armstrong was brillant at crowding..he wouldnt waste time battling a rangy guy like Alexis on the outside, it wouldnt be in his gameplan I imagine. Alexis could beat top level guys in both domains though..plus Hank would be walking through hell to get to where he is most comfortable. I gotta say I just cant picture even Alexis stopping Hank..though I do see him grinding out a win.
Really hard to say. I'd favor Arguello with his pinpoint accuracy but at the same time it's hard for me to say for sure. Everything Pryor did with his nonstop punching, Henry did better. If Arguello can control the distance and make Armstrong respect him, then he wins.
