Rooney found himself in against guys who were way too good for him based on the fact that he was solid yet lacked power. Turned out to do a really good job with a prime Mike Tyson, though. What's funny is if you see Rooney fights, he does a lot of the D'Amato stuff Tyson is famous for. He just wasn't as good at it. :!:
The vast majority of Arguello's opponents ended up feeling like the poor dumb kid who took a knife to a gun fight! There were reasons we called him "The EXPLODING Thin Man!" I really like what Ray Mancinni said years after they fought. He said that even when he was "doing good" and "winning rounds" he felt like he was being studied and set up for something later!
