Just how many fighters can claim this dubious distinction, current or from years past? JMM's a great current pick here. His debut against Javier Duran was a orchestrated DQ to pad his opponents record. Disgusting, right? He lost a a close UD to Freddie Norwood years ago. I remember scoring the fight and having it ultra close. The Chris John fight was a disgusting hometown robbery which I clearly scored for JMM, two point deductions against him and everything. Amazing that crooked judging and scoring would happen to a foreign fighter in that part of the world, right? Opinion's split on both Pacquiao fights, obviously. So, who else?
Sven Ottke fits right here. Should have lost to Reid and had close controversial fights in Brewer I and Mitchell and a few made up controversial fights due to his bad name after Brewer I. So, while his recoerd says he is undefeated that´s quite arguable. He get´s too much **** though, especially from guys who not even saw those fights. Calzaghe also fits imo. I had him losing to Hopkins 114-113. Pernell Whitaker should have been undefeated until he met Tito. I think JMM is 1-0-1 against Pac.
Depending on the context, you could mention Monzon. Not sure how his 3 fights were scored, they were all points loses. He avenged all 3 though, beating Massi 3 times including a knock out win, avenging the Cambeiro defeat with a points win and beating Aguilar 3 times, including 2 knock out wins.
I had Tubbs winning 6-4, but there were some close rounds if I remember correctly. Supposedly Bowe got lucky against Zumbrun, but I never bothered to score it (or pay attention very closely).
The second Golota fight should've been stopped before the DQ imo,as Bowe was getting absolutely hammered.Golota had something like a 70% connect rate in that fight which is insane.
Yeah, I remember watching that fight when it happened and being worried that Bowe would die. Horrible, horrible beating he took.
Still cant belive Andrew Golota thown the fight away. Also the 2nd fight. But as they say thats all in the past.
Agreed Do you agree with me that was one of the worst jobs by a corner in a big fight. They never should have let the fight go past six. I think a good case can be made for stopping it in the 5th.
Carlos Zarate was undefeated in 54 matches and had KOed just about everybody in the bantamweight division when he chose to jump a division and challenge for Wifredo Gomez's title. It could be argued if he'd stuck to the bamtams he'd still be winning even now! Okay, he did return to bantam and Lupe Pintor beat him narrowly on points. But Zarate's camp thought he was ripped off -and at worst it was a close fight. Zarate was pissed off enough to quit. Coming back ages later and losing a few matches was a bad mistake in hindsight. If only he'd stuck to the bantams!
The 5th was a very bad round, and I think it was after that round when Merchant said that there was a good chance that Bowe would forever be ruined from the punishment he was taking. The 6th round was a little better for Bowe, but the 7th round was another terrible round where Golota had target practice on Bowe. That would've been a good time for the corner to stop the fight. I don't know about the worst ever though. There's been a lot of poor corner jobs. Tyson's corner against Douglas, for one. Or Richard Hall's corner letting him almost get killed by Roy Jones, getting beat up badly round after round.
I am a big JMM fan, but there is no way that the John fight can be called a "disgusting hometown robbery", that is just ridiculous. Juan did not perform on the night at all, and the fight was very close, it could've gone either way. This does not constitute a disgusting robbery, far from it.
