"By James Slater - Alex Ariza, Manny Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach, spoke with the media after Pac-Man’s terrific win over the much bigger but slower Antonio Margarito on Saturday. And, though the pound-for-pound king easily dealt with the Mexican’s advantages in size, height and reach, Ariza says he hopes Manny will fight at no higher than welterweight from here on in - echoing promoter Bob Arum’s recent sentiments.

Ariza, as quoted by Philboxing.com, said he and Pac-Man have spoken about going back down in weight for future fights, and that the two agreed how they’re “kind of done with it [moving up and up in weight]..”

“I think it’s lost its appeal for us trying to push [through more and more weight divisions],” Ariza said. “When is enough enough? Until we get him hurt?”

The notion of the awesome Pacquiao getting hurt in a fight, no matter who against, may seem silly to some; especially when considering how great he was against the massive Margarito. However, it does seem Pacquiao’s future ring career will be fought at no higher that welterweight. Ariza explained:

“I think 140 is great for us, 147 is great for us especially with the way we’ve been training. Like I said, enough with the freak shows. It’s not a circus. Put somebody his own size in there.”

Ariza gave his take on what will happen if and when Pac-Man fights one of the two spoken-of opponents next.

“Everybody knows I like [a third fight with Juan Manuel] Marquez,” he said. “It doesn’t matter [which weight the fight would be at], 140, 144, 145, whatever [weight] they want to fight us [at]. [Shane] Mosley? He’ll be tired after 15 minutes, what’s the point of that fight? Manny knocks him out and probably, Manny won’t even train for that fight. That guy’s [Mosley] a quitter. He quit against Mayweather in three rounds.

“Marquez? He’s got balls, he’s got heart. [He’s] stupid enough to think he can beat Manny. So that’s a great fight.”

As many fans have said in the recent past, the idea of a third fight between Pacquiao and the Mexican great Ariza referred to as “stupid” is a wholly appealing one. The problem was the weight the two would meet at, what with Marquez being a natural lightweight and ineffective at anything approaching welterweight. But “El Dinamita” could possibly be able to fight well at 140-pounds, and Ariza did mention that weight as being a good one for Pac-Man.

Maybe, if he gets past Aussie tough guy Michael Katsidis on Nov. 27th, Marquez will agree to bulk up to 140 for a potentially thrilling third fight with the legend he has drawn with and lost a split decision to.

As for the potential Pacquiao-Mosley fight, Ariza is probably correct, and if the fight happens Pacquiao becomes the first man to halt “Sugar.” As faded as he looked in his last two outings, the near-40-year-old Mosley wouldn’t be able to live with Pac-Man’s speed, work-rate or punching power.

The fight we all want to see, of course, is Pacquiao-Mayweather - but we will possibly have to make do with Pac-Man Vs. someone else. Of the options for Manny, a third go with Marquez at 140-pounds looks the most attractive to this writer. How about you"

This crap about Mosely is ridiculous.

Roach wanted nothing to do with that fight even after he destroyed Margarito. It's a long term position. Floyd just dealt with the problem for them.

The theory that Shane would not be able to give Pacquiao problems, but Margarito could, is hilarious.

Shane's just as big and powerful as Margarito, way more skilled, way faster, and way more accurate.

I do find the some of the Eastside journalists on here a bit biased, in regards to Pacquiao (to keep the web traffic coming I assume), but it's time to talk sense on this.

If Margarito's a valid opponent, Mosely certainly is.

He's spent a career destroying brawlers. He'd like nothing more than to go toe to toe with pacquiao for 7-8 rounds.

Actual truth is, no way Pacquaio would ever be put in with a guy who can not only punch very hard, but is just as fast as him, and is probably a bit more skilled.

Margarito and Clottey = valid opponents

    Mosely = not

Actual truth is, they let Mayweather deal with both Marquez and Mosely and are now using the "well they've lost so there's no point now as they're finished" line.

I'll believe it when I see it, in regards to Manny being a top fighter against a Mosely or a Marquez.

Struggled greatly to beat Clottey to the punch, and took big shots with both Clottey and Margarito.

If that had been Shane, he'd have got really hurt

People should just remember, when I start talking down on a Mosley vs Pac fight and people try to call it hating, its actually reality.

Mosley? He’ll be tired after 15 minutes, what’s the point of that fight? Manny knocks him out and probably, Manny won’t even train for that fight. That guy’s [Mosley] a quitter. He quit against Mayweather in three rounds.

    From Pacs own team.

It will be pretty bad if this fight gets made. Not sure how or why anyone would defend this matchup.

If Pac is going to continue fighting, it should be against a young champion coming off a good win....

He wouldnt be there for it. Theres no way Pac would allow himself to get clinched by Mosley, Pac is constantly moving in and out and side to side....

I seriously think this would be as one sided as the Margarito fight, Mosley is not anywhere near Pacs level at this point and given his long layoff, then white wash against mayweather and then draw against Mora, Mosley should have to beat someone of note again before getting handed the biggest fight in boxing.

I think Mosley-Pac would be interesting regardless of Mosley's age. Mosley struggles with boxers, & thrives against fighters. I think Mosley likes that fight (regardless of the good pay day). However, I think Pac at this stage will outfight him.

fighting mosley people will say its floyds leftovers so whats the point?

Besides Floyd there really isnt anybody else to challenge Manny.

Even though it would be a massacre for my own personal viewing pleasure Maidana Pac will be entertaining as long as it lasts.

A Pacquiao/Mosley fight would be terrible. Mosley has been fading since the first Vargas fight and has very little left. The only saving grace in recent years for him, has been the Margarito win, which asks more questions than it answers, winning a few rounds against knocking and landing a lucky punch against Mayweather. He's done and I hate to say that as a Mosley fan.

Even more alarming as a fan, this is a guy who I think is at the early stages of brain damage. He should never be in a ring with Pacquiao.

Oh, okay. So based on what you said in the other thread, I assume you're stating James Slater is racist toward Mosley?

While I agree that SSM is done, I would still rather see Pac fight someone with some hand speed, some ability to move, someone who can box, someone who possess at least some quickness, and also has the power and experience to make it interesting. I think Pac beats SSM today, but at the same time it would at least be a different kind of challenge and one that I think would be more entertaining than seeing him beat up JMM or another slow plodding "bigger" guy who is content with standing in front of him and letting Pac beat the **** out of them.

I think JMM should forget about Pac, infact after the Katsidis fight win or lose i'd like to see him retire. The guys a warrior but he's had some hard fights and a thrid fight with Pac would be the nail in the coffin literally.

In addition I would rather see him fight some of the young, faster, stronger guys. Hell I would rather see him fight any of the 140 elite than JMM or Cotto/Tony/SSM etc. I'm not saying those guys would beat him necessarily but it would be fun to watch someone who could compete athletically, who he doesn't simply outmatch in measurables of speed and quickness. I think that would be interesting, but that's just me.

Agreed, I love JMM, but he's got no shot against Pac anymore, and I would really like to see him bow out gracefully as a warrior and champion. He is all class, he doesn't need this fight, and he can't/won't win the fight.
