...and these guys are rightly lauded for undeniably brilliant displays vs tough opponents in the face of massive size and weight disadvantages.

Will Pacquiao be given the same credit if he does likewise vs Margarito? :think

    Added in to avoid confusion:

Many people on here are whining over the fact that Pacquiao is going to be 144 for a lightmiddleweight title fight, but Armstrong and SRR are not subjected to the same garbage for coming in extremely light for welterweight and middleweight fights - THIS is my point, not that Margo is as good as Ross and/or LaMotta.

No, because Margarito is no Ross or LaMotta.

LaMotta is no Ross though. You either give the smaller man credit for beating a world-ranked bigger fighter, or you don't. The principle is the same.

Its incredible that people think its wrong to weigh under the division limit.

Regarding credit for beating Margo, it depends how he is at the weight. If Margo is throwing his usual number of punches per round then yes it would be an amazing display for Pac to win.

150 is a great weight for career welterweight Antonio Margarito. Anyone who has followed his career knows this.

    Exactly.

I'm not saying I won't give Pacquiao credit if he wins tomorrow.

But comparing Margarito to Ross or LaMotta? :rofl

Margarito is no LaMotta or Ross. Not by a longshot. Would be a good win nevertheless.

LaMotta is still miles ahead of Margarito. LaMotta is considered by many to be a top 10 MW all-time.

Pacquiao will get some credit for beating a larger opponent, but nowhere near these examples since Tony is nowhere near Barney or Jake.

I'm not saying Margarito is as good as Ross or LaMotta, but whereas Armstrong beat one of the best of his era (Ross) and SRR beat one of the best of his era (LaMotta), Pac beats one of the best of his era (Margo) in a similar situation. On the principle of a smaller man giving away weight and facing a top, much larger fighter, he deserves credit on the same basis.
